Re: The dreaded itchies!

Hi! Thanks for your help! Hi Steve, nice to meet you! It's so good to see another Aussie on here - I was beginning to feel very isolated :D It's tricky when so many of the good options just aren't available to us. Hey, I am interested in the Eagle Pack food though - I see from the ingredients that i...

Re: The dreaded itchies!

Thankyou my dear for coming to my rescue once again! [:D] Although I couldn't find the Orijen on the link you posted, I was very interested in the food that was on the site though, especially as the distributors are only 20mins away. I'm a bit embarrassed that I'm a local but it took someone from ov...

Re: The dreaded itchies!

Another thing: I started Khan on the salmon oil tablets yesterday, and he's taking one in the morning and one at dinner time. Yesterday he ate the tablets whole, and vomited his dinner up almost as soon as he had swallowed it. There's no bile or froth or anything, it's just his chewed-up dinner.... ...

The dreaded itchies!

Hi everyone! Khan's growing up big and strong - he's at 15.2kg at 15 weeks, which seems about right. Unfortunately, he's recently started itching and scratching, itching and scratching *sigh* Pulling at his fur and damaging his skin  So I've read up heaps on the forum - gone back over 5 years o...

Re: Dried food advice please (my head hurts!)

Thanks for the advice! I did go and check out the subforum for Best of Nutrition, but it's so hard for a newbie! I mean, I think I have the best brands cemented into my head, go to the pet shop, and find that none of them are available! So, I remember that corn isn't great, buy the only corn-free ki...

Dried food advice please (my head hurts!)

Hi everyone! Well, Khan's 11 weeks now, and growing up fast! He's just over 9.5kg, and getting very mischievious :) I've just finished most of the IAMS puppy dried food (kibble in America?) - I've since read that it's not really very good, but I bought it the day before he arrived home, and didn't h...

Re: Food Questions

I think I must be a bit naughty with what I feed Khan.... He's a bit younger than your Penelope by a couple of weeks, and without researching I bought before he arrived Iams puppy dry food (Americans call it kibble? Is that right?), as he had been fed the Advance puppy food by the breeder and the pe...

Re: My Chow Sounds like a Pig

Khan snorts and snuffles heaps too, although doesn't sneeze much.... Apparently it could be something to do with the dogs being bred to have shorter muzzles. Pugs snort heaps! But if she's doing proper sneezes (rather than just sounding like it), perhaps she's allergic to something? That'd congest h...

Re: Introducing Khan!

Took Khan to the vets today to have an over-all check-up and to express my concerns about his nose frothing. The vet (who I was relieved to hear has raised Chows himself - a rarity in Australia!) said that yes, Khan is exhibiting signs of having an elongated soft palate (which he pointed out to me b...

Re: Introducing Khan!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments! Well, today we are suffering from sleep deprivation - Khan decided that as he's a big boy (5.6kg at 8 weeks - about 12 pounds?) he didn't have to be confined by a baby gate, so at 2am he broke through it and started to ransack the house... well, chew a few tab...

Introducing Khan!

Hi everyone! We welcomed Khan into our lives yesterday! He's stolen our hearts already :D Such a good little boy so far - no little accidents last night, and he's fairly placid so far. Sleeps a lot! Only chases the cats infrequently :D We took him around my partner's parents' house today, and he had...

Introducing {insert name here}! :)

So, on the weekend we got to go and choose our Chowling! They were all so cute, it was hard to make a decision! As we're not looking for a show dog, in the end we chose on personality over anything else. We've ended up with a lovely chubby little Chow boy. We haven't decided on a name yet, but top o...

Re: Newbie - advice please!

Thanks Judy, and yeah, I think when we see them we're going to want to take the whole litter home with us! :D We tentatively would prefer a female puppy, just because we think a girl might be a little more easier on us for our first Chow, but we don't really mind too much either way. As we're 4th on...

Re: Newbie - advice please!

Oh gosh, I know - it seemed to take forever! And I would've been gutted if she'd said that there were only three puppies :_| I don't know if I'll have heaps of choice considering there's three people before us, but I guess it means we'll still have our pick of three puppies. Not that we mind if it's...

Re: Newbie - advice please!

Yay! Just found out last night that the mommy Chow had 6 puppies - 4 boys and 2 girls! What a lovely big litter! Is it usual for there to be more males than females, or is it just random? The lady will be contacting me again in a week or so to arrange for me to visit the puppies. So exciting! :D

This isn't my puppy, but I came across him when I was looking for one. Unfortunately he had already gone. I've never seen a Chow x Border Collie before, but he looks like a little panda! Very adorable, so I thought I'd share :D

Re: living with cat training

Hmmm, yeah, I'm going to have the same problem when we get our Chow baby in the next few months.... I have two one-year-old cats now, and am getting a kitten in the next day or two (my surprise present from my partner yesterday for our two-year anniversary - awwwww :D ), and I'm a bit worried too. I...

Re: Easiest way to remove a tick

We don't get many ticks here thank goodness, but this's what we do on the odd occasion it happens. Simply loop some thread about the tick's head (pracically right where it's joined to the animal's skin), and holding both ends pull together and outwards at the same time. The tick comes out easily. Th...

Re: Shower Chow.

Maybe this's another similarity between some Chows and some cats. My cats love the shower - they won't come in while it's on heavy, but they'll sit just the other side of the curtain watching, and as soon as the shower is off, they'll race in and lick up the water off the shower floor :-8 My cat Max...
