Re: buying from superpuppyshop...scam?
My colleagues have been burnt before. Could either be a mix breed passing off as pure breed, or just outright scam where they take your money and disappear. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't.

Re: Any Advice
At 5 months, puppies are still learning and changing every day. It is not unusual to pickup bad habits or have new issues suddenly pop up. I have tried about a training method that works well on dominance problems, it’s a pretty simple training and does no harm if it doesn’t work well on your dog, h...

Re: Sleeping inside
LOL our problem was the exact opposite, how to get him to sleep outside! Actually dogs naturally wanna be close to people as much as possible, so it’s weird that your dog prefers to be outside by himself in the dark. Does he have a favorite bed in his kennel? Put that inside the house, it might help...

Re: Shedding ... how long does it last??
You could try using a furminator (or a similar tool) to brush your dog once every 2 weeks when the shredding is bad. We find it helps a bit.
But you need to be careful with these tools as overuse can damage the coat.

Re: Best Way to Discipline Chow?
We have tried a simple training during feed time before with a dog with dominance issues, seemed to help, here’s a link to it http://www.dogforum.com.au/showthread.php?t=651 Could also tried a bit of crate training too, it might help indirectly. Just google and you should find lots of guides, but he...

Re: Teething issues
In addition to what Morgan said, you could also try to “direct” his chewing to toys. All pups need to chew a lot so you change that. We have tried putting kibbles in a Kong, then push a chunk of meat at the end to block the opening. Once you freeze the toy, the meat becomes a block of ice and stops ...

Yea unless you say he’s a chow mix, I’m afraid no one can guess that right now. Still a cute looking pup tho!

Re: Will my dog look more like a chow or a black mouth cur?
Your picture is pretty dark so it's hard to see, but right now it looks 90% black mouth cur. But that could change. I have seen crossbreed pups that significantly change their looks.

Re: Any Advice
If you haven't found a pup, the single most important thing is to find a good breeder. A pup from a top shelf breeder will seriously solve half of all your problems. You will find your chow easier to train due to excellent temperament, with minimal health problems because of good genetics, and a goo...

Interesting mix of Chow / Dachshund, from the picture he looks more dachshund than chow but pups do change a lot so who knows!

Re: How Fast Do Chow Chows Grow?
Sounds like an exciting time! For an average female, maybe 6-8lbs when you pick her up. Double in about 4-5 weeks, double again in another 8 weeks, then double gradually over 5-6 months. Usually looking at the parents will give you a good idea of how big she will be when fully grown. Rough guide onl...

Re: How Fast Do Chow Chows Grow?
Even dogs within the same breed can vary in size/weight considerably, also male and female are quite different. For example, a female chow can be as little as 22kg and a male can be as large as 35kg! Need to know whether it’s a male or female, and roughly how big the parents are Sent from my iPhone ...

Re: How to get male chow to stop marking his territory in the house?
It sounds like the dog has never been toilet trained before. Your mom could consider doing some crate training with the dog? Just google crate training and there are tons of guidelines out there. Could also help the dog to settle better in the new home.

Re: How to stop aggression or be more friendly to people
One of our dogs was a bit like this. So for a while, every time we had a visitor, we would ask the visitor to give him a treat. Gradually he associates visitors with treats and starts wagging his tail when a visitor walks in.
Unfortunately that’s also what he would do if a burglar walks in tho

Re: Reverse sneezing
We have a small Yorkshire who used to do that occasionally, vet told us unless it's excessive, it's quite normal and there's nothing to worry about. Could be just some dust or anything that irritates the nose, or sometimes just being over-excited. But if it keeps happening again and again over a few...

Thanks for your reply. It doesn’t sound too bad. Yea I guess most breeds also could have some sort of issues at some point.

Re: Tips on choosing a breeder / puppy
Thanks for your reply. Although this is just you and doesn't represent everyone, 6 pups from top breeders and 2 of them developed elbow dysphasia and etropism, that's a very high percentage. May I ask were they expensive to treat?

Tips on choosing a breeder / puppy
Hi guys, we are looking to get a chow chow puppy and I have done a little research on the breed. Apparently they are prone to hip, knee, elbow and eye problems genetically. But what I can't see in my online research is how often these problems happen. Are we talking about 1 in 3? 1 in 10? or 1 in 10...

Re: Is my Chow Chow purebred? This is my first chow chow. :)
I am no expert but we just visited a registered breeder the other day and saw a bunch of puppies (we are looking for a puppy). Not sure if it's just the angle, he looks a bit different to the ones I saw, his head is not as round and his nose seems a little longer? But we have had other dogs before, ...

Hi
Hi there! We have a German Spitz, a Lab and Maltese but our German Spitz has passed away last year at 17 years. So we are looking for a new dog and we are seriously considering a Chowchow. Just doing our final research now and we thought there's no better way to learn about a breed than to speak to ...
