Re: New chow puppy problem

We adopted a rescue Chow who was 9 months old and had a biting problem. It was very frustrating a took a while to sort out, but it can be done. First, let him know the bite hurts by giving a little yelp. It took some time work out what type of yelp he responded to, which was a little high pitched sc...

Re: Sensitive tummy dry dog food?

Our chow Charlie has a sensitive stomach. He did chicken and rice as well when we got him and we give it to him again from time to time. Currently he's on Hills Ideal Balance (chicken and brown rice) and has been reacting well. I also give him a little banana from time to time and that helps with so...

Chows in the rain

The basic question I am asking here is how to (or: how do you) poop and walk your chow in the rain. I live in Hong Kong where we get torrential rainstorms. There's a colour system and when it hits black rain, work is cancelled (to give you an idea of how serious the rain gets). The thunderstorms usu...

Re: How much are you paying for insurance?

In Hong Kong with Manulife a bit over US$600/year though there is a cheaper plan at around US$360. Not many choices for pet insurance here and the price goes up after 9 years of age. I think no dog/cat insurance beyond 15 years of age.

Re: Adopted chow loves play biting

I do try to avoid stairs/repetitive climbing with all of my dogs. I think it is the impact of coming down the stairs that can cause issues with the soft growth plates on young dogs. Practice caution rather than risk health issues later in life. Will try to avoid stairs where I can, but there's even...

Re: Adopted chow loves play biting

Hi Cindy, Thanks for your detailed replies. Charlie loves the floors too. He's discovered he can slide his down to the floor with his front and back legs going forward and backwards simultaneously. We did give him a bully stick and that really occupied him. Took him a while to work out exactly what ...

Re: My Chow Chow keeps getting attacked by other dogs

I've experienced the same issue with Charlie. A lot of dogs lunge at him, start barking furiously. Charlie tugs on his leash furiously barking back, but he never initiates it. This happens frequently. Except for 10-year old little Momo. They seem quite fond of each other. There's a lot of dog owners...

Re: Adopted chow loves play biting

Hi Cindy, Thanks for you comments and the links. Everyone seems pretty fond of Charlie. I read a lot of articles online and on this forum with similar advice, but didnt get too far with any of them. The comments section on that article was pretty good as it had a nice cross-section of people who had...

Adopted chow loves play biting

Hi everyone! New member, I decided to join because I found a lot of the questions I googled directed me to this forum and I would like to take a more active part. I recently adopted a 10-month old purebred Chow Chow from the SPCA in Hong Kong. He had been abandoned on the streets. His name is Charli...
