Re: Eczema
My Chow has one hot spot on his back, underneath where his tail sits. He used to bite the area a lot and subsequently lost the majority of hair in that spot. I took him to the vet and they prescribed me with a wash to use to help soothe the area and keep it clean from infection in case he broke any ...

Re: Chow fur
If you feel that the excess fur around his eye's is irritating him at all then I don't see any harm in having it trimmed a little by your groomer. My Chow isn't a super fluffy Chow, but he has monthly visits to his groomers where they trim up round his feet, his bum and inside his ears. They only us...

Re: Chow + Children
Thank you for all your replies! Its a great reassurance to hear that you've had positive experiences between Chow and babies. I will definitely try to introduce the babies blanket first. That sounds like a great idea! I have even heard that your own dog can sense pregnancy so lets hope thats true :)...

Thank you for your advise!
Do you have any suggestions as to how I should introduce the baby and my Chow?

Chow + Children
Hello! My Chow is two and a half years old and unfortunately hasn't had many opportunities to socialise with babies/children. When a close friend of mine had a baby it gave my Chow and I a chance to see how he got on! He didn't take too much notice of the baby - only lovingly laid next to her when s...

Re: Interaction with other dogs
I have issues with my Chow and other dogs! Its never him - its always the other dog. Different breeds tend to take a dislike to them for their different smell and the way they look. However my Chow seems to get on better with smaller dogs rather than big ones. I encourage him to bond with friends do...

Re: Question
Hello I agree with the above post! I bought my first Chow 2 and a half years ago and I couldn't imagine having any other breed! As I'm sure you've seen, Chow's tend to feel that they only have one dominant owner, which has personally been the case for me and my pup! I never consciously focussed any ...

Re: New chow puppy problem
Hello Sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Chow puppy. I found my Chow puppy very easy to train and easily got him out of the habit that you have explained. I also used the yelping method to break my puppy's bad habit. I yelped in a way that made him believe he had hurt me (Chow's are ...

Chow Chow Castration
Hello! I have just booked my Chow in for his operation to be castrated! He has had a previous bad experience with a different vet and is therefore very nervous/aggressive when he has to take a trip to the vets. He has a new vet now who is amazing and very patient with him. She will be doing the op h...

Re: My Chow Chow keeps getting attacked by other dogs
From my experiences, I always find that its bigger dogs that have an issue with my Chow. A while back two French Poodles approached him despite their owners command not to. They ganged up on him from both angles and tried to bite, but thankfully I had my father with me to hold them back from him, wh...

Re: My Chow hates the vet
Hello! Thank you for the advise! I'm glad Moose is getting better in the vets with the help of treats :) Unfortunately Mr Chow isnt interested in food whenever he's outside of the house. I've never been able to train him with the use of treats! The only time a treat persuades him is to come inside t...

Re: My Chow hates the vet
I registered him at a new vet last week and took him in just to have a friendly introduction with a new veterinary nurse, who was very lovely and patient with him. I plan to take him for a check up next week, but its whenever the vet comes close to him to do something such as an injection when he ge...

My Chow hates the vet
Hello! My Chow turned 2 years old in July. As a puppy he loved going to see the vets, but when he was about 1 year old he sadly had an accident whilst he was playing outside and his dew claw was hanging off and bleeding! I immediately took him to the emergency vet and they said it needed removing. T...

Re: My Chow Chow keeps getting attacked by other dogs
Thanks for all replies! I have been told that castrating him may help the issues as other dogs wouldn't find my Chow so dominant. Has this worked for anyone else? I feel bad that I cannot let my Chow off his lead for a run around in fear of him getting attacked. I try to take him very early in the m...

My Chow Chow keeps getting attacked by other dogs
Hello I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same problem... I have a male Chow Chow that has just turned 2 years old. Every time we go on a walk and meet other dogs, he gets attacked by them! The other dog seems to have a strong instinct to approach my dog and attempt to bite him. Sadly ther...
