Re: Ideal dog poop appearance?
Thanks Constantina.
Shortly after the post I switched to Now and Go by petcurean. He loves it just as much. His poop firmed right up to a much better consistency and I have not gone back to Orijen.

Re: How often do they shower?
Hi RandalllHet, I usually give Moose a full bath every 3 months. I'm curious how do you wash just Monty's head? Moose also gets the smelliest around his eyes, mouth and bib. I use a wet cloth daily to wipe the areas, but sometimes the smell still accumulates. I have thought about just bathing his he...

Re: Advice with our 2y/o Oprah
Hi grey8, Congratulations on the new addition to your family! Hope you guys are getting some much needed sleep! I'm sorry to hear about Oprah. Chows are so smart and intuitive. It sounds like she became protective over your wife because she knew she was pregnant. She may also be more hostile and war...

Re: Chow + Children
Hello, I agree with previous posters about knowing your dog and the individual child. This is just my experience with my dog. Moose was 13months old when I brought my son home from the hospital. He is absolutely amazing with my son. Very gentle and protective. We tried to introduce him to lots of ch...

Re: My Chow hates the vet
p.s. they usually start with tossing the treats to him and slowly toss the treat closer and closer until he is eating it off the floor by their side and then eventually out of their hand. I'm thankful for a very patient and understanding vet.

Re: My Chow hates the vet
Hi Jaydfreeman, sorry to hear about that traumatic experience for your pup. Is he food motivated? Moose is scared at the vet too. First off we do the whole exam, vaccines etc on the floor. I never put him on the table. The vet gets down on the floor to examine him which we really appreciate. Next to...

Congrats Toby!!! Rory's dad, you must be one proud papa.
Kudos - I don't know how you manage to keep all three of them looking so sharp and showing them on top. I have a hard time with just one. hahaha

Re: things chow cows like?
Yup agree with all of the above that likes may differ. I bought a variety of different toys to start with i.e. harder toys, treat dispensing, soft/fluffy, ropes, squeakers etc. I found that Moose prefers soft toys, ropes and anything with a squeaker. He also likes soft toys that have a crinkle sound...

Re: Barkbox
As per request, I will continue to update re: barkboxes we are receiving. :) I really love how they have been themed so far. This month to celebrate thanksgiving in the US: 1) Turkey plush toy - very soft fur and includes a crinkly body and a squeaker 2) Canadian leaf - made with much more durable m...

Re: Barkbox
Hi All, I just wanted to do one more update on this. This will be the last, unless requested otherwise. Moose received his second bark box today. I dunno who enjoys opening it more me or Moose. He already seems to know it is for him as he is circling me as soon as he sees it. I dunno how he can tell...

Re: How to brush teeth of Chows
Sorry, I just wanted to clarify in case I didn't make it clear. I would put the thin wash cloth over your finger. So walter still feels like it is just your finger for the most part. I hope you have good success!

Re: How to brush teeth of Chows
I mainly use the finger tip toothbrush with a chicken flavoured toothpaste. I occasionally use an actual dog tooth brush, but Moose doesn't like it as much and I find it harder to maneuver. Since Walter is accepting your finger with toothpaste but not the finger toothbrush, maybe try something in be...

Re: Chow Chow weight
I had similar concerns about Moose's weight. He is on the smaller side, 36lbs at 8 months old. I asked the vet to check his weight and he taught me (along with others in this forum), to check the dogs ribs. You should be able to feel them slightly through the fur, if they are really boney and too ea...

Wow thanks so much Rory's dad!!! I feel like I got a true expert/professional opinion! :D In our eyes, we obviously think Moose is the most adorable and handsome pup ever. ha! We have never been to any shows and we got him under a pet contract i.e. not allowed to show even if we wanted to. I'll PM y...

Re: Barkbox
Thank you so much Nara and Rory's dad! I was getting worried as he seems to be small weight wise for his age. He is 7.5 months and only 36lbs. His dad was 65lbs and mom was 45lbs. He was the biggest in the litter so we thought he might take after his dad. But vet says he seems happy and healthy and ...

Re: Barkbox
Just a quick update. Our first barkbox came yesterday. It ships out on the 15th of every month, but we are in Canada. So I think that might make it take a bit longer to arrive. Inside was 2 bags of treats - one duck treat and one chicken liver treat. Both are made in US, gluten, soy, wheat and corn ...

Barkbox
Hi Everyone, Moose and I are very excited!!! We just signed up for a 6 month trial of barkbox and our first barkbox should be coming this week. For those who haven't heard of it, it is a subscription service that sends your pup a box of 4-6 goodies (treats/toys/chews) per month. I'll be sure to upda...

Re: Ideal dog poop appearance?
Moose is 5 months old and I have been feeding him Orijen puppy. I also noticed that his poop was on the soft side and sometimes harder to pick up cleanly when he goes on grass. But he really seems to LOVE the food and he has been growing well! I'm glad to hear that others have experienced the same t...
