Yeast infection
Our 2 year old little boy Dax has battled yeast infections most of his life. He gets it between his pads. Mainly on his front paws. We have tried just about everything. The vet has prescribed Trizchlor. But it doesn't seem to clear it up. We recently moved from Texas to Michigan. Now with the snow, ...

Re: How much are you paying for insurance?
We have 3 chows and have insurance on all 3 of them. To me it is well worth it. We have had insurance from 2 different companies. First one was VPI Pet insurance. Depending on the coverage you pick it ran between $30 to $55 per month per dog. We now have Pet Plan insurance. Again depending on what c...

Re: My Chow hates the vet
We have 2 chows that don't like going to the vet. Our little girl was traumatized by a vet that was scared of chows. The vet even put in her records that she was aggressive. Now we drive 50 miles to our old vet. Now our girl will pee in the vet's office because she gets so scared. Our vet now works ...

Re: Severe Bilateral Hip Dysplasia *pictures*
We had a female that had severe bilateral Hip Dysplasia. She was on Dasuquin and Rimadyl for most of her life. Then later we added Tramadol also. This helped quite a bit until her later years. We went back and forth with the FHO and hip replacements. We eventually went with the hip replacement becaus...

Re: Pet Insurance
We are a firm believer in pet insurance. We had it on our two older chows before they passed. We know have it on our three youngsters. We had to have TPLO surgery on both of our older chows and it was very helpful with the bills. There are some things hereditary that it doesn't cover like hip dyspla...

Re: I suddenly got a 5 month old Chow and he wont warm up to me
Cindy & Laura are both right. Take it slow and he will warm up to you. If you force it Stefan will get scared and his natural defense will kick in. Just talk to him kindly. Go about your normal activities around the house and talk to him. The next thing you know you will be tripping over him bec...

Re: Aggression or normal Chow behavior?
We have 2 shows that are very out going and 1 that is exactly like what you describe. Having chows for 30 years, I can tell you that they are just like children. Each with their own personality, Hachi & Myka are very outgoing and loving. Remy is more reserved and does not want to be touched by s...

I believe it is normal. We have had 6, and all of them have snored. What is even more funny is when they are dreaming and sleep barking. Really cute on both.

Re: Walter was about to vomit when I accidentally stopped it
Having lost our 13 year old chow this January to stomach cancer we watch our 3 youngsters for any sign of vomiting. Our vet tells us not to worry, she tells us the tell tale sign is their weight, if they aren't losing weight then it's probably something they ate. Hachi chewed part of his sister's na...

I hope your girl is doing better. We had our 13 year old girl have the same issues last year. We did a sonogram done and it was liver cancer. I hope that is not the issue. We lost our little girl to it. Hope she is feeling better.

Re: Trim or not Trim
We live in Magnolia, Tx. We have 3 chows. We don't shave them. We have them groomed. We have had 3 other chows before. We had shaved them. I didn't like how their coats grew back. To me just grooming them leaves a much better coat. We brush them daily. The only problem is when their winter coats com...
