Re: Dapple Chow
He is a very unique looking Chow. I would consider him multi-colored though not dapple. It's very interesting to see when a Chow with such unique features comes along. He certainly looks pure Chow as far as all of his features. Some people would say harsh things because he doesn't fit the breed stan...

Re: Please help! Rescuing a Chow (mix?) in April
From the picture it looks like he is an "old school" Chow. There are two types of Chows and he looks like the Chows that came to America in the late 1800's- early 1900's. He may be purebred considering the problems he had with his coat. Is his tongue solid purple? Not all purebred Chows ha...

Re: Feeling confused and sad!
Geraldine, You have found out how well your boy Kilo can read you. He became defensive because you displayed fear/anxiety. His job and thousands upon thousands of chows before him is to protect you. When you are happy and easy going he is at ease. When he sees you tense up its in his nature to becom...

Re: Need advice
Have you tried any supplements? I had great success with a supplement called "Fresh Factors". It's made by Springtime Inc. My girl Peekaboo responded so well that her story is in their catalog. It's a joint supplement that's loaded with the good stuff our Chows need as they age. I can't sa...

Re: Need advice
I don't have experience with the laser therapy. I thought you should know that my Chow Peekaboo had ACL surgery just before she turned 12 years old. The risk with anesthesia goes up with age but a good vet should be able to take out a pin without getting him too far under. I know my vet uses a rever...

Re: Meet Rambo
I was 23 years old when I got my first Chow Nikita. He was a beautiful boy that had a great personality. I would take him with me everywhere. My wife and I picked him out together but he was my dog. He loved my wife too and when our daughter was born he loved her and watched over her. They were grea...

Re: Meet Rambo
Rambo is a good looking boy. It's nice to see the trust he has in you. I've had Chows for 28 years and I'll never be without one. I'm happy to see you both share in that bond that only Chow people understand.

Re: Really ticked off
I'm sorry you live so far away. I'm in Cody Wyoming. I have 2 vets here that have done great work correcting entropion. I feel lucky that we are in the country and vets still charge reasonable rates. Yes, the Chow in the picture is my girl Misha. She just turned 10 months old. She came from Chengden...

Re: Really ticked off
I remember your post. Entropian is possible no matter how good or bad the breeder. I've had several Chows and two needed entropian surgery. If your vet is charging $900 per eye I would find another vet. I've had both done successfully for $500 total. Do you live in the west? I ask so that I can refe...

Re: Will my chow chow coat change
From your photos I agree with your breeder, you have a rough coated Chow. She looks similar to my girl Peekaboo. She started out looking much like your girl. Her coat stayed shorter than my other two Chows but after she turned 3 years old her coat blossomed. Each year her coat got better and better....

I joined the forum in July so I wasn't familiar with your story. After reading this post I went back and read your story about Lily. You've had quite an adventure. I enjoy your writing style and I am going to go back now and read your story of Tess. Thank you for sharing your stories. We have much i...

Re: Is my Chow Chow a pure breed?
Your puppy looks like a pure Chow. The pictures are not very good however. I need to ask you why you would put a diaper on your Chow. I think you are probably causing the tail problem by putting a diaper on your puppy. Don't take offense but that is the wrong way to house train any dog. Any of us wo...

Re: How common is aggression?
You've been given some great advice here. I agree that it would be a huge mistake to send a Chow puppy away for training. The puppy needs to learn to respect you. Time spent with your Chow, positive reinforcement training along with socialization will give your puppy everything typically required to...

Re: Meet Riley from Central America
I don't think its too much. Riley looks healthy. Chows almost never over eat to the point of getting fat. I leave kibble out all the time. I've had Chows since 1986 and I've always fed that way. My Chows get meat everyday in the evening. I would make sure you feed at least the recommended amount for...

Re: Post Patella Luxation and Surgery Care
I had my Chows knees done several years ago. The surgeries were two years apart. Both surgeries were very successful. When she comes home, she'll have a very large cast like bandage. This should immobilize her knee sufficiently that she should be able to limp outside and she should be able to squat....

Re: Sliding on Hardwood Floors
I think Cindy has the answer for you. Get some no slide rugs and give your puppy an area he can get some traction. I too think that in time your puppy will mature and learn to manage the hardwood quite well. I've had problems too on laminate floors with puppy's and also very old dogs. Not suggesting...

Re: does my chow look purebred? i have my doubts
Your puppy looks like a pure Chow to me. As Rory's Dad said the pink in the tongue is not an absolute indication of a mix breed but a disqualification for showing. I didn't have much luck with Blue Buffalo either. My 9 month old female gets Diamond Puppy kibble at will. I supplement that with chicke...
