Re: Is snoring normal
From my experience, yes that is normal.
Sukie can make some really loud snoring and snorting noises when sleeping or upon being awakened.
Fully stretched out on her side snoozing away seems to be the ideal orientation for the most fun noises.

Re: I need post patella surgery advice
RuthB, Sukie tore her cruciate ligaments in both knees. I elected for the surgery where they add strengthening reinforcement to replace the ligament rather than the TPLO surgery. I was lucky to find an expert vet who had performed the surgery on both humans and dogs. Sukie was able to regain use of ...

Re: World's friendliest chow?
Hi Ruth, My Sukie was more friendly when she was younger. On walks she would want to stop and be petted by friends in the neighborhood and interact with other dogs. It made for some long walks as she was very popular. As she has aged she has become a little more territorial and cautious with people....

Re: TPLO surgery for torn knee CCL with severe dysplasia ???
Went through the same with my Sukie. One day after a walk she came up lame... tore the Cruciate Ligament. She also tore the other knee in compensation, so it was 2 surgeries of about $1500 each. After surgery I kept her in a playpen on the deck for outside time and limited her movements for a few we...

Re: Collar Issue
Thanks everyone for this thread. I was using a heavy nylon collar with a metal buckle for my girl Sukie but was concerned as she was having some matting issues with it. I purchased a "Coastal Pet Products DCP120620BLK Leather Circle T Oak Tanned Round Dog Collar" from Amazon - she seemed t...

Re: How often do they shower?
My Sukie is not a big fan of the bath so she gets a full bath and shampoo about every three months or so. In the interim if she is out in the rain or snow then she gets a proper towel dry. A "sanitary trim" of the backside areas is not a bad idea. My vet only charges $10 for such a service...

Re: Blow dryer
Hi there,
From my experience:
Sukie was more scared of the noise than the dryer itself.
So I was able to dry her using a low-noise wet-dry vacuum output for a while.
For her bath time now she gets a thorough towel dry and brush. Less fussing and fighting that way.
Good Luck.

Re: Teeth Care
Folks,
I have had luck with treats called "ARK NATURALS Breath-Less Brushless Toothpaste".
My girl Sukie likes them a lot.
They freshen her breath and help out in between actual brushings.
They can be found online at places such as Amazon.

Rukster,
You may want to see if their concern is rooted in insurance issues - most complexes are required to have some form of insurance.
I have learned for myself that many of the major insurance offerers will not insure living spaces where Chows are present.
