Re: How much exercise does 4 months puppy should have?

Puppies playing in the yard will rest when they get tired, so there is little worry about them playing too hard. I do watch for things that they can climb on and jump off of as the impact is very hard on their joints. (and puppies will jump) I use a five minute rule of thumb for puppies. Five minute...

Re: Any rescue chow owners that can offer some advice?

I have worked a male through this very issue. We went to a dog park, but did not go in. Instead we played and trained outside the fence. We would gradually move closer to the fence and I would offer treats when he paid attention to me and ignored the other dogs. It took weeks of gradually moving clo...

Re: Soft poop since yesterday.

I think he is still a bit on the small side. Keep encouraging him to eat. It sounds like you are giving him some yummy foods. I am happy to hear that his poop is back to normal. It is easy for young puppies to become dehydrated so monitor his water and watch that his stools remain fairly solid. (and...

Re: We have a new show puppy!

Thanks, some poses she looks so young and some poses she looks almost grown. (Hitting a gangly stage) But, she still acts like a silly puppy. We want to go to Nationals because we have never gone. Waiting to see how our schedules and finances are standing.

Re: Soft poop since yesterday.

I am one of those people who wish breeders would not send a puppy to it's new home before 8 weeks.... Please take the new puppy to the vet for a New Puppy Check-up. All of my puppies are seen within a day or two of coming to our home. The vet can check for overall health and possible issues. Often n...

Re: 9 Week Male Chow chow Behavior

This is normal while they are settling in. I often give my young puppies something to keep them busy. For us it is a raw beef bone with a little meat on it for the puppy to chew on. Other have mentioned that they give yummy treats in a kong. I found that they wear themselves out and settle in after ...

Re: Introducing my chow to my cat

I am curious to know how this goes. I gave up! My chows are downstairs and the cats upstairs. All three of my chows have been around cats from the time they were tiny puppies. All three would chase and kill the cats if they had the opportunity. (could be my bad methods) But my rottweiler is cool wit...

Re: 15 week old chow with Diarrhoea

How is Bella doing now? Often times new puppies have loose stools when they are big changes in their lives. Has she been checked by the vet to make certain she does not have any health issues. I will give my pups some boiled rice and chicken over their food to help make the stools more solid.

Re: Hi

Godiva is very pretty! I do not discourage any of my dogs from growling as this is their way of telling me that something is wrong. If you stop them from growling they may skip the warning phase and jump right to defense (aka biting) This being said, I also do not encourage growling. If one of my do...

Re: We have a new show puppy!

I cannot figure out how to post pictures except through facebook and I have deleted that account. I entered Skye in a pre-puppy show (4-6 month). She was very apprehensive at first, turning constantly to see who was sneaking up behind her. Then she relaxed and we had fun. She even let me show her bi...

Maybe it means nothing, but did anyone else notice that all of the positive posts that have suddenly appeared on this post are by 20 or so members that joined the forum on the same day. YOU CAUGHT THAT TOO? A few things have me a tad bit concerned (not saying they are a bad breeder) 1.) I...

Re: Hi everyone! Meet Daxter the Lazy Chow

Daxter is a "red" chow chow. His coat will most likely turn more red as his adult coat comes. My male is a red and still has mostly white on his tail. (I love it!)
