Re: Is it time to say goodbye?

This is really tough. Only you will know when you are ready to say goodbye. I made the decision to send one of my dogs to the bridge due to prostate cancer. I asked myself over and over afterwards if I should have kept him alive, no matter the cost, no matter the pain. It took a long time to overcom...

Re: Male Chow Weight

Unless there is a health issue I would not be too concerned. All of my pups had periods that they were off their food for a few days here and there. Then they would begin gulping down food again and they seemed to sprout up... Basically they all just eat when they get hungry. So, if you have had him...

Re: Progressive agression issues

A dog that seems to switch from loving to "snappy" in a short amount of time has me running them to the vet. Chows are very stoic. They will not let you know they are in pain... but they will get upset if they feel you might accidentally hurt them more. They may growl or snap to keep you f...

Your girls are adorable! I had a chow when I lived in Arizona many years ago. We had swamp coolers and he loved to sleep as close as possible to the air flow.

Re: Rescue puppy ears question

I am not sure about the ear issue. Thank you for taking the puppy in and giving it a safe and loving home. I use photobucket.com to reduce the size of pictures. I am sure their are numerous sites that will also do this for you.

Re: New puppy question

Laura gave some very good advice! I just want to add that even with only one set of vaccines, your puppy should be fine going potty in your own yard unless you have had dogs in your yard with parvo. It is important to avoid areas where many dogs have access; such as parks. I take my young puppies nu...

Re: Height

A great deal is determined by the lineage of the puppy's parents... But yes, it is common for the male to be a bit larger than the female.

How old is your chow? My male had a black tip until he was close to two years old. It is now solid white.

Mine love to be hugged too. They both nuzzle into my neck when I hug them.

Re: I am glad to be here! some questions! :)

Your little girls is very cute! I am not certain how much food is 90 grams. I found it easier to measure with a cup rather than to weigh. I think I fed about 1/2 a cup 3 or 4 times per day. I do offer treats when they are young. Some of my puppies would eat bits of fruit but they all love small piec...

Re: HELP! How to introduce a new puppy of a different breed

We have introduced a chow x golden to our chow. They are not the same *Censored Word* and are best of friends. We have also brought a rottweiler puppy into our home. Our chow plays with him from time to time but mostly watches while the chow mix plays with the rottweiler. My chow thinks the rottie h...

Re: Chow Beards !!!

I try to keep a towel handy to wipe away the excess. This does not always work and my crew often have wet beards (or bibs... as I call it) Once a week I rinse out the bib area and blow dry it. I only do a complete shampoo about once a month. Many do not bathe that often but my crew always seem to fi...

Your puppy is adorable. How is she doing now? Looking at the pictures that you posted in December I would have guessed that she was closer to 6 weeks old. (I am not an expert) I just love her chunky little belly and sweet face!

Re: Males fighting

Chance, my male chow is 3. He is solid as a rock. Nobody or nothing shake him. But, our 18 month old male Rottweiler (Drake) tries to challenge him from time to time. They are great outside together, but I have to keep them separated in the house. Things get snarky when they are trying to get love f...

Re: tips on crate training

Crate training with Raine has been possibly the best decision that we made in her early development. She is almost 8 months old. Last week she had to have elbow surgery and must be crated/confined for 2-3 months to allow the joint to heal properly. If I had not taught her that her crate was a safe c...
