Re: Chloe On My Mind
This just brought tears to my eyes. I had a little one who also crossed over the Rainbow Bridge last year, and it still hurts. I'm so glad you found Whitby!

Re: I'm afraid that my chow is not pure breed
For reference, and it's not a scientific or 'standard', the bear type refers to the closed faced, stockier type of Chow. Both my current male and female chow would fall into that description. Again, its just not an official identifier, but a generalization. I also thought so at first, but when I st...

Re: I'm afraid that my chow is not pure breed
First of all, there's no such thing as a "bear type chow." That's just a marketing term Filipino breeders use, although I'm not sure if those from other countries use that also. Now, even if his color's cinnamon, his gums being pink doesn't necessarily mean he's not purebred -- one of his ...

Re: My baby Chow's weight.
Chows come in all sizes, yours just seem to be on the smaller side. My chow was the runt of the litter, and he also weighed 4kg at the same age, but ever since we got him, he's been gaining weight overnight. At the moment, he weighs 30+ pounds at 5 months -- again, not humongous, but that should giv...

Re: Meet Kokoy
@Rory's Dad> So, so, so true. It's so hard finding a vet with ample experience handling chows. Even our current vet doesn't have a lot of chow patients. We're really pleased with how he's been attending to our dog thus far, though -- he only confirmed that Kokoy doesn't have entropion after examinin...

Re: Meet Kokoy
I'm extremely happy to share that our new vet has confirmed that Kokoy doesn't have entropion. It might be because his facial structure changed, or because he never had it in the first place, and the first vet just misdiagnosed him. Either way, I'm ecstatic and will buy him some treats and toys this...

Re: Meet Kokoy
Thank you! Will def be consistent on letting him know it's not OK to chew on wires, furniture and my hair. Right now, we play fetch ~20 minutes a day and practice basic commands for another 30 -- he also runs around our property for another 20 mins every morning with my sister and spends a couple of...

Re: Meet Kokoy
Thanks, Laura! Yes, definitely. A couple of our old dogs were chewers when they were puppies, too. We'll just continue distracting him with toys and games and make sure he doesn't touch anything dangerous again. For now, we've sprayed a few things in our house with a mixture of apple cider and white...

Re: Meet Kokoy
He has A LOT of chew toys. So many, we don't know where to keep them. We also play with him all the time to tire him out, and make sure we firmly say "No" when he starts chewing on anything other than his toys.

Meet Kokoy
Hey everyone! My family has owned dogs all my life, but Kokoy (pronounced Coco with a y) is our first chow chow. People keep saying chows have bad temperaments, but Kokoy is no more stubborn than any of our old mutts and is definitely more obedient than our late shih tzu/pom mix (I loved him dearly,...

Re: Smelly Puppy Chow
Question: how does your chow's smell compare to other dogs? My little boy starts smelling 5 or 6 days after his weekly bath (we live in the tropics, and he likes running around our garden, sometimes rolling in his own piss), but it's no worse than the usual wet fur stink. However, we used to have a ...

Re: Stating my opinion, let me know yours
I know the stereotype, but just never understood it. I have met many, many chows before I got mine (my cousin has one, and I've met several through a local chow chow owners' association), and I've only ever come across one who growled at me when I tried to go near him. Others were very friendly, sev...

Re: chows as sloppy drinkers
Oh wow, I didn't think a lot of chows are sloppy drinkers. My pom/shih tzu mix (RIP :[ ) as well as all my mom's mutts were very neat drinkers, so imagine how amused I was when my chow dipped his two front paws into his water bowl, wet the floor with them, and the lie down like a frog on top of the ...
