Re: Chow Chow - Agatha from the UK

So, here is Aunty Agathas' new sister Gladys now 3 mths old. http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x414/goosenka/Stuff/20150313_125909_zpscnt3axvg.jpg Both are getting on fine. Play can be spirited but Agatha has a wonderful way of just saying enough is enough. I am amazed that even though blind she p...

Re: Chow Chow - Agatha from the UK

Thought I would post a little update. She seems to be doing fine at the moment. No real problems and so we are all happy and calm. As of sunday she got a new sister - Gladys an 8 week old Newfoundland :D Agatha loves her little puppy and after 3 days is happily trying to play. Gets a bit tough for h...

Re: Chow chow blindness

The above post sounds alot like Uveo Dermatological syndrome that my girl has. She is 4 and has had one eye removed. She is blind in her remaining eye. The symptoms started with swollen conjunctiva gland. Rapid high pressure which caused glaucoma. This is a wicked and very rare condition caused by a...

Re: Chow Chow - Agatha from the UK

Hi All Well I thought I would offer an update to how my girl is getting on. After her last small increase in pressure on her eye in February I think, she was doing so well. Sadly 6 weeks ago we had another terrible attack plus she had an ulcer on her cornea. Whether the ulcer was caused by a scratch...

Re: Chow Chow - Agatha from the UK

Hey All Well, the girl is doing ok. We sadly had another episode of high pressure in her remaining eye which caused further damage, a 3 night stay in hospital. But as ever, she was patient and relaxed. The latest onset was so quick but luckily enough I got her straight to the opthalmologist who star...

Re: Tongue Colour

My Chow is 3 and her tongue has gone from blue to pink to blue again! Now it is pinky blue. I guess if you think about the breed they must have some pre disposition to pigmentation issues. I wonder as my girl has been through a tough time recently whether there is a connection at all? My breeder sai...

Re: Looking for a New Vet--What to Consider

Hi Coco! It's never easy is it. Personally I was advised that a number of vets (perhaps less reputable ones) see Chows as dollar signs. We took our girl to the local vet out of convenience as they are a few minutes walk away for a free puppy health check. Before I took her in I spoke to the Vet and ...

Re: Cant train to leash walk my dog.

Patience my friend patience!

Some Chows will be happy on a lead others not so much. They can be very stubborn and it looks like it becomes a drag race to get them moving.

4 months is still a baby. Take your time and it will happen!

Regards

Christian

Re: Melanoma in chows

Hi Ski Whilst my Chow does not have Melanoma she does suffer from Melanin production around her ears. It looks just like very dusty or flaky dried blood that you would see around a scab. My girl has a syndrome called UVD which is in the Spitz breed of dogs. We have tested her skin deposits and it co...

Re: Chow Chow - Agatha from the UK

Hey All and a Happy New Year from London! I thought I would update this thread and let you know how she is getting on. Last Thursday we took the decision to have her left eye removed as the glaucoma was chronic. You could tell that her mood was suffering and she was very reluctant to walk. Well we a...
