Re: Marking mad

Thanks Rory's Dad for your reply. I didn't think he was so dominant because he's such a softy. I guess I'll have to watch him like a hawk now, especially in new places!! Any idea why he gets excited when little dogs go off at him? Often when he walks past one or several little dogs, he usually ignor...

Marking mad

Hi, I have a 15 month old neutered chow boy, Paddington, who is mostly well behaved. His recall is great and never runs off without us so he's allowed to go off leash at the park. The problem is that he loves, loves, LOVES to mark. When he sees another dog mark an area, he'll immediately remark the ...

Re: NOT SURE IF I AM GETTING SCAMMED!! NEED YOUR OPINIONS

I really do hope you haven't spent any money yet. Firstly, when purchasing a pet of any sort, you want to make sure that it actually exists and is healthy. I personally believe that you can't gather enough relevant information this via email correspondence alone. The grammar and punctuation alone ma...

Re: Can I get a chow?

I do still point out that not all those expenses need to come at the onset. It's always better to be over prepared than under right? Yazzle: Those hours at uni are nothing to be concerned about, even office hours are fine. Just so long as you can juggle assessment tasks with dog ownership, a...

Re: Does Anyone Let Their Chow Walk Without a Leash?

At the moment I let Paddington off leash because he's still a puppy and likes to zoom everywhere, so much faster that I can run. I'm not afraid he'll attack because he's been socialised well (I'd like to think anyways), and normally it's actually the other way round. I have to keep an eye out for hi...

Re: Can I get a chow?

Quite honestly i will say that the responses to this post are way off base and generally uniformed. I feel like this comment is a bit of a low blow; basically implying that the posters above, and myself, are uneducated about our own breeds. Each chow is different. My chow has been trained to withst...

Re: Can I get a chow?

I am also a full time student and have a chow who is left home for 10 hours alone at home a few days each month. He is fine but has been known to use my shoes in lieu of his toys. But it's not only about the hours that you'll be home for, the financial situation has to be considered, as well as time...

Re: Premier Gentle Leader Harness?

My boy has used medium from when he was 12kgs to now, which is close to 25kgs. It's getting a little snug now and at 12kgs it was loose, so you could probably go with a medium-large if it's not too late to return it. Hope this helps :)

Re: Eating 101

Found it: "If a dog is scarfing down their food, I feed them by hand, in an isolated environment, until they learn how to chew. Chewing is critical for a dog. And literally some dogs need to figure it out as adults how to do it. Sometimes I will hold one end of the chicken quarter and not let t...

Re: Eating 101

My boy chews so I don't think it's a chow thing.
I read somewhere that giving them a large piece of meat will teach them to chew? I'm not sure how effective this is and you certainly don't want him swallowing a large piece of meat unchewed.

Re: I think this is him <3

Hi chowlinglingmommy, congrats on your cream boy as he's absolutely gorgeous. When do you get to pick him up?
I've been following you posts as I reside in Australia as well and have waited over a year for my furbaby :( if you don't mind me asking, which breeder did you get him from?
