signs of fear in 9 months chow chow
I have a 9 months chow chow and he is a great soul. I've been reading a lot about chows and the importance of their early socialization. He is really nice to everybody, barks when he hears noises but never really attacked any person or growled/got into a fight with another dog. When he was reaching ...

Re: Bark collar?
I don't really agree with the bark collar either. Remember that you little chow chow is now exploring the world and is slowly gaining awareness of his strength. My chow, Drogo is 7 months old and has started barking at things and sounds that do not really seem important to me. I believe that his gua...

Re: What kind of Dog food do you use? / skin problems
Just saw this guys. Thank you for your contribution. He is on Akana Pacifica at the moment. Still scratching but the vet said to wait a bit more.
I will wait and see how this goes and hopefully will solve this.
Have a good weekend

Re: What kind of Dog food do you use? / skin problems
Is anyone using ACANA PACIFICA for all breeds and all sizes? It contains different type of fish and no grains. I am feeding Drogo this dry food and some rice for a few days now. He seems to like it. I noticed yesterday that due to him scratching his neck, some hot spots have appeared. It seems irrit...

Re: What kind of Dog food do you use? / skin problems
Thanks to all of you, your replies have been really helpful. I live in Cyprus so I was checking out around vets and pet shops what kind of brands are sold here. The main ones are Royal Canine, Hills, Purina, Orijen and Akana. I got small packs of Orijen and Purina puppy sensitive with salmon and ric...

What kind of Dog food do you use? / skin problems
My chow chow Drogo is almost 6 months old. I am feeding him the Royal canine (junior) dry food, sometimes mixed with a bit of yoghurt or cottage cheese (but only a teaspoon ) and a bit of olive oil once a day (again a teaspoon). He sometimes gets a bit of chicken, or steamed carrots and green peas. ...

Re: My little chow puppy has ectropium of the eyelid
I thought I replied to this, but since I'm new to the forum I probably thought I did. :) Drogo had the entropion surgery the last week of January and we removed the stitches on Monday. His eye looks really good now and has stopped running. The hair around the eye is now totally dry. He was slightly ...

Re: My little chow puppy has ectropium of the eyelid
Went to vet for vaccination. The puppy has entropian. The vet suggested that he has the surgery end of the month as it looks quite bad and won't go away while he is growing. I also got a second opinion and the other vet agreed too. He said that it leaves the puppy a burning feeling in the eye. The e...

Re: My little chow puppy has ectropium of the eyelid
Thank you both for your reply! To be honest I am not sure which one of the two it is or I did not understand correctly when he said it. But from your saying and the vet's 15 minutes procedure it must be an entropion. I will clarify with the vet when I take him for his 3 months vaccination which is n...

Hi TJordan, thanks for the reply. Meds for the eyelid you mean? The vet said that this can only be healed with surgery

My little chow puppy has entropium of the eyelid
My little 10 weeks chow chow has entropium of his right eye lid. The vet suggested that he has surgery just after his third vaccination which is in 2 weeks. He mentioned that the surgery takes 15 minutes and that his eye will be fine. Has anyone else had similar experience with their chow? I am slig...
