Re: Help with potty training.
I see I forgot to say that we got Lily when she was 9 weeks old and didn't have that many accidents and I blame us for them, not her.

Re: Help with potty training.
I have a 10 month old chow Lily, and what I figured out with her when she was little is that the indication to go out is so subtle, you really have to pay attention to them....she had a few accidents in the house mostly by the back door where she knew to go out and pee...she has since learned to cli...

Lily in the snow
Ok, I know it's summer, but I had to post this picture of Lily at around 4 months....in the snow with "dingle balls" on her chest...any one else's chow get these? She had them all over her and then had a blast eating them later and it left a watery mess in the house, but at least it kept h...

Re: How did you train your chow?
I'm no expert, but after having 3 chows....they pretty much trained me! Classes are always a good start, but chows are unique in their "cat" like personality and if they resist, they won't. I have had three well behaved friendly chows and the training is never ending in some ways, but easy...

Re: question about chow chow type
I'm no expert, but the puppies usually look a lot like their parents...so I'm doubtful you'll get a brown nosed puppy, but I suppose anything is possible, however....you can't go wrong with cutie like that! Good luck!

Re: Matilda with newly rescued 8 year old cat
I'm no expert, but my past experience with an adult cat and dog has been that if the dog doesn't have aggression issues with the cat, things will probably be ok...although there is no guarantee...if the cat doesn't like the dog, they will just hide from them...best to never leave them alone to inter...

Re: Amber came home on Thursday
What a beautiful little girl! I love that in the first pic her paw is touching his paw....that contact seems like just the reassurance Amber needs to feel safe....my Lily is 5 months now, and much better with chewing, but I "feel" your pain when it comes to shoes with feet in them!!! Keep ...

Re: Bad Bad Leroy Brown.
I'm not sure how old Leroy is, not that that is an issue, but I read that you and Leroy approached your neighbor....was it a "head" on meeting or was Leroy preoccupied with something else and caught your neighbor in is side vision? As we all know that beautiful mane also cuts down on the s...

Can't say as I blame her....although I don't live there and I don't know where you have to go in Minnesota....but I know that June is not a guarantee that it will be warm there! We vacation in Northern Wisconsin in June and have had really cold weather .... but come on.....it's for a cutie pie!

Re: See Whitby Run
Yikes! I know what you mean! I don't know how old Whitby is, but my chow Lily is 4 months and she had her first experience with garbage cans and the garbage truck....what a hoot! The garbage cans were monsters and the truck was definitely trying to eat her up....although I had her check out the cans...

Re: CHOWS AND CATS/KITTENS
Before I got married, my husband had a dog, a black lab and I had a full grown cat....I asked my vet what the best way to handle both....his reply was that if the cat doesn't like the dog, they will just avoid and hide from the dog, but if the dog doesn't like cats....that could be an issue because ...

Ok...my vote...and I know it doesn't count...but TAKE BOTH!! Wouldn't that be awesome!! I have a black chow, but those two are SOOOOO precious!! I think all of us that have the "chow thing" would have as many as we could! It appears you are involved in the show world, so I know it will be ...

Re: Help! New Chow leash biting, other stuff.
Thanks Rory's Dad.....there is a lot of sniffing and peeing and chasing a blowing leaf....and thankfully she gets to meet people and other dogs as well...so I am going to shorten her walks until she and I have some training! It's been too cold for walks the last couple of days....at least for me.......

Re: Help! New Chow leash biting, other stuff.
I also have a 14 wk old that does pretty good on a leash...for awhile, then wants to play with the leash, jump up and bite my pant leg and just play...we haven't started obedience classes yet and I haven't tried the going the other way yet (I will on our next walk in about an hour)...but I was wonde...

Re: My Little Lilly
I've been reading your story about Lilly and it brings to mind my last chow that we rescued when she was supposedly 3-5 years old, turns out she was older so we only had her for 4 years. We named her Claire and she was timid at first then she fully "owned" us! Not knowing the past is the h...

Re: stinky chin
I agree with everyone...first a vet check to make sure no irritation or infection...then try to wipe with a dry cloth for drinks and maybe a "puppy wipe" type towel for food and other particles that collect. Do you leave a collar on all the time? I only have a collar on when we go out, not...

We had been looking for an older Chow to adopt/rescue and my hubby found her on puppyfind.com....I really wanted an older chow because we both work and I know it is a lot of work to find someone during the day to help you out...well....long story short....we went to Southern Wisconsin which is about...

Lily at 9 weeks
This is Lily on her first day at home. She was 9 weeks old when we brought her home and she learned to click on the glass the very first day! The other pic is of her in her new "space"! My hubby build it for her around her cage and that's where she goes at night time....he refers to it as ...
