Re: Drop out?
Oohhh and btw my Italian greyhound is 15 with arthritiups so she cannot play with my chowling but by telling my chow what is and is not acceptable they have formed a sort of friendship. My greyhound is so well behaved (she was a show dog) only the chowling needed to be told how to correctly interact...
Re: Drop out?
I am on my first chow and yet to take her to formal training classes, but since I was little my family has had many dogs including italian greyhound show dogs which are also notoriously stubborn. Combining that with their ability to run at speeds that only Olympians stand a chance at keeping up with...

Re: Chow reluctnant on accepting new chow puppy ?
My chowling is also timid around other dogs. She is 4 months now. The weird thing is she is fine with dogs her size and larger but small dogs and puppies scare her and she will run and try to stand between my legs or under something. I am wondering if this is normal chow behavior? It seems strange t...

Re: Maturity age?
Does your dog get one of her meals at night? If so maybe you could put it closer to bedtime after exercising. Dogs get tired after they eat so its worth a shot...

help! burr fur
I've started noticing after going outside with Pandora she has burrs all over in her fur. I brush her at least every other day but recently to deal with this I've started brushing her every day but it doesn't seem to get the burrs out if her coat. has anyone else had this problem, and if so how did ...

Re: Maturity age?
My chow is also just over 3 months old and seems to have recently gained so much extra energy that keeps her up late! What I have been doing to tire her out before bedtime is to roll a ball down a long hallway in my house and letting my chow run after it. Luckily my chow loves to play fetch but only...

Re: interactive dog feeders?
I already make pandora preform commands before she gets her food. When i was training my italian greyhound we took her to the trainers that train manyof the k9 units for our metropolitan area. Cleo, the italian greyhoud, was really misbehaved, the chowling is a dream comparitavily! but now Cleo is t...

interactive dog feeders?
I am looking to get my chowling, Pandora, an interactive dog bowl to make her work for her food. I have looked at the Kong wobbler but Pandora doesn't seem interested in dog Kong toys. She won't even knock her puppy Kong around if there are treats in it to get them out. Pandora does love sniffing ar...

summer heat and shaving a chow?
Now that the summer heat is in full swing I limit my chowlings time outside to bathroom breaks and walk her only in the early morning and late evening. I know that chows don't do well in heat and today it broke triple digits. I was wondering if its a good or bad idea to shave my chowling to help her...

Re: Advice on making my chow move along =]
I don't know if you are still having this problem, but I think its very common up among all dogs especially new members of the family or puppies. My chowling is fairly new and also had this problem of resisting with all her might or laying down and not moving during our walks. I have trained her lik...

Re: Is there any chow owners in Dallas/Ft. Worth area?
I have a chow pup (10 weeks) in the oak lawn area of Dallas who would love to learn from the older wiser chows. She is timid around dogs still but loves human attention and I would love her to learn the proper socialization amongst other dogs. She will finish her puppy shots, including rabies, in 6 ...

Re: new pup and older dog + misc. info
Thanks for the info. I will definitely look up the books recommended. I want the best for my pup. I will make sure to observe a class before I enroll Pandora. I expect to have to spend a lot of time with her reinforcing the training but knowing that the trainers give a good starting point is helpful...

Re: new pup and older dog + misc. info
Thank you. I do pick up the other dogs bowl when she is not eating, but if Pandora notices that the greyhound is eating she runs over there to try and snatch a bite before the greyhound finishes. I generally take her outside or to another room while the soft food is out which works well but I would ...

new pup and older dog + misc. info
My boyfriend and I recently got a chow chow puppy (she was 8 weeks old when I got her from the breeder.) I have had many dogs before but they were all small or toy dogs. I have owned a jack Russel terrier, cocked spaniel, 2 Italian greyhounds, and a Chihuahua but never a chow as my parents only let ...
