Too smart.

So my little violet is now 4 months old, just got her rabies shot and weighing at 26 lbs. My vet tells me she should double her weight when fully grown.. (: so we are excited. I bought a gate to keep her in my room and out of trouble. She figured out how to open the gate with her nose. Too smart. Ha...

Groomers at 3 months old! Ear question!

She's fresh from PetsMart groomers. They're so good (a little uneven but I can't complain). She's posing all nicely for the camera, at 12 weeks officially (: Should I be concerned that her ears aren't all the way up yet? Will they eventually get there or is she a case of "special"? http://...

Re: What Do You Make Of This ...?!

I work as a vet assistant in a clinic. We haven't had any chows come in since I've worked there, except for mine. She's never been put under, but from my experience with putting dogs under, the bigger dogs weighing over 30 lbs will be giving a shot of torb before being put under. It's just like a tr...

Re: Drop out?

It all makes sense. When we take her out and strangers come up to pet her, she snaps and jumps as soon as someone reaches to pet her head, but anyone that scratches her chin first, she accepts. She loves running up to strangers but as soon as they come up to her, bam! she snaps. I don't mind teachin...

Drop out?

So if you guys didn't know. I enrolled Violet in a puppy class. We went to our first session on tuesday night. It was good, more for us, not really for her. She picked up barking from other dogs and refuses to let anyone pet her over the head. I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth going. I read so m...

Re: What type of Chow Is She?

My chow's parents look like yours, but they were smooth coats. They weren't fluffy but did still have a long thick coat. I can't answer you but man she's a cutie. I see that you have another dog, do they get along good?

Re: Signing Vio up for classes!!

I am excited for her. My boyfriend's mom takes her lab to classes, and she does great. I hope we does just as good. But when I brought her in, the trainer was a little taken back because she is a chow. My boyfriend is more firm, whereas if I see Violet do a little smile or anything cute, I sneak her...

Signing Vio up for classes!!

I'm so excited! Finally signing her up for puppy kindergarten! I work full time, so her "momma" (my boyfriend) is going to take her to the classes. Would it make a difference if I took her or if he took her? I do want her to listen to me too, or will she only listen to him since he will be...

I tried to teach my 3 month old to roll over.. sometimes she does it, sometimes she doesn't. If you get her to do it, post up pictures and or vids! I would love to see... ): mine is too stubborn.

Re: socialization

I can't wait until Violet is mature enough to walk around and socialize. She does love to go out.. but once a group of 2 or more people walk up to her to play or pet, she freaks out so i have to hold her while they pet her. ): I try to take her out more, but she seems to be more and more afraid ever...

Re: First day.

Yeah, her mom and i (well, my boyfriend and i, he likes to call himself her momma) decided that we have to find another vet for her. I mean Violet is a typical puppy, she freaks out when anyone uses force to restrain her, but I'm just worried that she'll hate the vet because of these people. But in ...

Re: First day.

This hospital seems to favor a certain breed, the labrador. When I first came into the office with my chowlet, they were like "OH! Look, this dog is so cute even though she isn't a labrador!" They only have pictures of cats and labs up on the wall. It's really crazy, but i guess if i have ...

Re: First day.

My vet doctor loved my little angel. But man the vet techs are tough. Everytime we have a rough dog walk in the door, they turn to me and joke that my chow might end up like that. It's just really annoying. I do get offended and I snap back. But I realize that this is a good opportunity (thanks for ...

First day.

I got an intern job at a vet clinic, i thought it would be great experience for a veterinary technician to be. As soon as I came in the doors, everyone was so friendly and asked me about my pets. Obviously I told them to about my little chowlet and almost immediately, two of the vet techs were like ...

Re: Maturity age?

Well, as of right now, she is sleeping outside. I do let her sleep with me occasionally, but she ends up chewing my ear or hair or step on my face. I don't let her out when she whines though.. I leave her in for a good 5 minutes after bad behavior. I'm sure she didn't mean to leave the marks, maybe ...

Re: Crate training and..

I have a crate on the smaller size, accommodating her size right now, is she scared to go in there because it seems too small? I gotta try it today. Hopefully she goes for it. She seems too smart to fall for any of my tricks, when I try to lure her in with toys, she quickly grabs her toy and runs ou...
