'Purebred' question

I know a breeder that breeds to produce Merles and sells them at a higher price due to their "rareness". When questioned about standard colors, the breeder's reply is always that AKC will recognize Merles one day as "the sixth Chow color"

Best Time to Neuter

(Sorry, hit reply too soon) anyway, we didn't really have the option since breeder would not allow pick up until neutered and healed...I know that doesn't answer your question, but I've always wondered if 8 weeks was considered too young

Best Time to Neuter

I asked the same question (with varying answers) awaiting the arrival of our Eddie...the question was irrelevant as the breeder insists on spay/neuter and microchip between 6-8 weeks and will not

Help...water in ear

He's always gone to be groomed and had never had a bad experience..in fact he prances around there happily because of all the love and positive attention he receives. His ears stand up which is why I'm thinking the water may have gone in there-it's pretty much a straight shot to the ear canal from w...

Bordetella

Although I do not board Eddie, I stay current on the Bordatella because he goes to the groomer every 3 weeks and the dog park weekly...we don't use the nasal spray tho...just the injected vaccine

Help...water in ear

Hi all- Got Eddie back from groomer yesterday and he has been tilting and shaking his head since last night. I feel so sorry for him because he seems severely agitated and uncomfortable. I called the groomer and was advised to gently put a cotton ball in his ear to absorb any water-then follow up wi...

Transition from puppy food to adult food

Eddie is nearing 8 months and I'm thinking about the next few months and wondering when will be the best time to make the change to adult food. Also, should I "transition" slowly by introducing the new food in small increments if its the same brand and ingredients (Blue Buffalo grain-free ...

Deer antler

Antlers are a huge success in our household. Although they are more pricey than regular bones, They seem to last 100 times longer. Our trainer has given us a tip that has helped quite a bit: If they begin to show signs of losing interest in the antler, soak it In chicken broth and it will immediatel...

Dog Shaming

Just found the site and love it...laughed so hard...there's one submission about the owner falling in the woods, fell, hit his head on a rock and his dog proceeded to pee on him while he was hurt on the ground...morbidly funny, I know!

Good lord...

I'll never understand the nerve of people that feel they need to make inappropriate comments and pass judgement on something they clearly have no experience with. Between that and your fiasco at the dog park...you've have quite a week! :{ sorry A few days ago while checking out in Petsmart, a woman ...

I'll need to do some more digging also...I've been told 6 weeks is perfectly fine but somehow it doesn't sit very well with me...I just haven't been able to find anything to negate that...just seems so young...the topic of orthopedic issues will be the next avenue of research...thanks

Re: Enough is Enough

Yes, knowledge sharing is crucial, and by delivering the knowledge and experience constructively, that will ensure this sites increased participation-resulting in owners doing right by their Chows. If people feel intimidated and bashed, the one who will eventually suffer the most is the Chow, becaus...

Have you heard of anything being detrimental to the pup if done early (very early...as in 6-12 weeks old)? There are so many varying opinions :(
