Re: New puppy arriving in January
Have you gotten your new pup yet? How'd intros go? My Chow is super chill with other dogs, so it worked out well when I brought another home. All are different though, I had one Chow that was a bit grouchy with new dogs. She'd adjust eventually, but always had to keep a close eye on her at first. Pi...

Re: Is Emma pure breed
Though most Chows have the classic purple tongues, some don't. No biggy out of the show ring. You have a cream, open face rough, beautiful little lady. Btw the tongue usually fills in by 8 weeks, but I *think* there are exceptions-can't swear on it though. I would think by year mark for sure, be you...

Re: A Second Puppy
Grats on the new addition. You could resize the photos in the paint program that comes with windows. It's not too hard. :D Or you could make a photobucket account and upload the images to there, then copy/paste the IMG to this text space. Both work the same, just a matter of which is easier for you....

Re: Show chow question
To be honest, I think they need to allow a wider variety of nose coloring in the creams. I notice some breeders try to point them quickly while young before their nose fades to liver or speckles. Though, it's probably more detailed than anything I know. Just an observation mostly. Otherwise, I think...

Re: Dog is HYPER-active, doesn't respond outside
Very odd, but I find I don't have much to add to AppleBear's response. It's spot on. Since I can't totally sit on the sideline due to my nature, I would wonder about your description on the smooth chow. I actually find mine goofy rather than aloof like my roughs, but he actually is more agile, lazy...

Re: Dog is HYPER-active, doesn't respond outside
Without pictures, no one can verify if chow is indeed in your dog. I can say one thing for sure, spots on the tongue are NOT exclusive to the chow and is a VERY common misconception. I've seen a CH golden retriever have spots on their tongue, and also seems to be very common in GSDS...however, you c...

Re: Chow shoes
Unless it's super cold, like well below 0 [F]...I personally wouldn't bother. I always think of winter as the chows season, where they can go out and not overheat. All mine have gone crazy for it and seems to be when they are the most active, except when it just gets too low and you'll see them lift...

Re: Raw food
First I would have her checked out by vet to make sure it's nothing medical. I haven't heard of Chicken Nutra....but can say I am not impressed with the other foods, and maybe she isn't either. My Chow does very well on Fromm, but I'm looking into another called Victor [suggested by friend, I need t...

Re: Fair price?
My first two chows cost 250 each. First was a open face red rough female and 2nd was a close faced rough male [very showable, and his owners showed]. How times have changed....that male was the best dog I've ever had, and I found him in the paper. Saying that, things HAVE changed and it is common to...

Re: Ruby is trying to go walk-about!
She sounds like a chow to me. lol They are very head strong, solid recalls can be hard. But I've had Ro get loose on me several times last year [all accidents...long story] and yeah he goes completely deaf as I watch his fluffy buns jet off down the street enjoying each and every tree. I use to pani...

All good, I love your personality [if you're on fb, feel free to pm me and friend up...I share tons of pics there, I'm the freaky dog nut]. :) I won't say what this surgery was for, but will for my next one and that is for osgood's sclatter [probably misspelling it] disease in my knees. Just doing o...

Re: Help! Chow puppy now HATES people
Sounds like you're getting a hang of things. :) Keep in mind that all dogs do go through fear periods too, so if she seems like she is back tracking down the road...don't let it freak you. She may just be going through a stage. Watch her thresholds, keep up the great work! So how did superbowl go? I...

Re: Help! Chow puppy now HATES people
Good days and bad, very common so don't let it discourage you or feel embarrassed. *hugs* Hey we both have Ro's for nicks. ;) Honestly it sounds like she is being pushed a bit. Set her up for success and end on a positive note [for longer walks, don't be afraid to cross the street when you are going...

No worries guys....I just had surgery, on tons of drugs and after I looked at it when I woke up, it just felt stupid. Group has never been overly active...lots of lurkers, but not new here. Just took a long break after going through a big disappointment with Ro's breeder. Those that know me, knew I ...

Re: Help! Chow puppy now HATES people
Briahna, he was the most difficult chow I've ever had, but despite having to manage at times...the work is what made the difference. His confidence was all ready up, in fact he was quite sure no one was allowed on this earth but himself, me and those he considered special enough for his highness. Wh...

Re: Help! Chow puppy now HATES people
Sounds like she needs some counter conditioning personally. I got a nasty tempered chow, seriously 8 weeks and he was marking, humping and charging people growling, huffing/puffing...you name it. He'd also mark people and kick his feet huffing from a distance. Nasty little brat I tell you. :) First ...

Re: Rescue Chows vs Breeder Chows
I have recommended Forestway Chows here a couple times to people looking for Michigan breeders. I add the caveat that I am juding their soundness based on their website information, and to investigate further. I did the recommendation in an open forum. Must be nobody here has had any problems with ...

Re: Chow puppy with pink nose?
No problem, can some times happen in groups like this. I would say she looks cinnamon...I've only ever had reds, and all have had black pigment on paws, nose, etc.. I'm not an expert either, but do know lighter colors have a tendency to go a bit off standard...even though standard says creams should...

Re: Chow puppy with pink nose?
Her nose seems more liver colored to me. I'm guessing it has to do with her coat color....she is a bit lighter, and some times they get a nose to match.

Re: Emergency help please. First heat, and contact :(
As said, you need to be with her 100% of time while outside when in heat [this includes time after she stops bleeding, as they do not bleed the entire time they are fertile...think it's like a month? /shrug]...though I'm guessing you are figuring this out, males will come from miles around and go to...
