I really hope that this dog is getting out for walks now - poor thing must have been stir-crazy - and his behaviour is under control.

Re: Chow's undercoat
Wow! I agree that you should sue and tell everyone you know not to take their dog to her. Sounds awful - I would be beyond steaming angry with her. If she does not own the shop, complain like crazy. Complain like crazy anyway as she clearly does not know how to treat animals with care or respect. Hu...

I'm not insensitive to neutering - just insensitive to overly macho twaddle!

Also - make sure that you ask your dogs to sit and wait before you put their food down. Just to reinforce that you are in charge and control the food. Humph used to try to steal his sisters food when he was a pup, so I had to stand between them for a while but he soon got the message. Your dogs are ...

Re: Can I leave a chowchow puppy home alone?
I have learnt that it is difficult being single and having a dog (or dogs in my case). I have help from my parents and also have a brilliant dog walker AND use a doggy 'creche' once a week. It is a financial committment but well worth it as my dogs are calm and content. Chows are not great at being ...

There is also a 5 yr old red female looking for a 'retirement home' on epupz.co.uk (£400). She comes from the same breeder as my boy so should be happy and healthy.

Battersea Dogs Home have a 2 year old chow called Asia who needs rehoming - he was very badly neglected and had a terrible start in life. Battersea consider homes from everywhere, so if you are prepared to invest the time in this guy he might be for you!

I hope that you find your new family member soon. In some ways it is great that there are so few chows requiring adoption. Have you tried the London Chow Rescue Society if you are prepared to travel?

Fozzchops will not go out in the rain, but loves to paddle in a stream! Humphrey loves water and plays in the paddling pool at Canine Club whenever he is there. I'm going to get him a pool this summer. I'm sure your dog would love one if he likes to paddle.

He needs socialising, training and TO GET OUT OF HIS CAGE and have enough daily exercise! I'd pull too if I was put in a cage!

Re: Kenneling your Chow
Home boarding rather than a stark purpose-built kennel is the way to go.
If I had to do it, I would use my doggy walker as they know/love her and her dogs anyway so would be happy to go.

Re: Chow breed originally unknown when adopting
I think that the best tip that I can give you would be not to think negatively about this dog and take her as an individual. I have two 'pure' chows and although they are stubborn and independent, I don't see anything to suggest that they are 'nasty' in any way. I am a single girl, first time dog ow...

I dont know anything about Lepto - although I will say that Fozzchops breeder told me all sorts of rubbish. I always go with vets advice - do my own research too and ask for second opinion if necessary.
