Re: Menino

Your answer should be to simply keep your dog on his regular routine. Let those that are accepting realize how well socialized he is and let them meet the dog. They will be the ones that change the perception. I have 3 Chows at the moment. They are the stars of the neighborhood. Everyone seems to ha...

Maybe it means nothing, but did anyone else notice that all of the positive posts that have suddenly appeared on this post are by 20 or so members that joined the forum on the same day.

Re: Pet injured......

No idea what to make of this post. Buying a dog at a show that requires fur cutting and cleaning is suspect enough. And then to describe the dog as a Pug while showing a Chow pic? And finally not being sure if a dog that was attacked by raccoons requires vet attention? Did the raccoons suddenly appe...

Can you find anywhere on their site that identifies where they are? I couldn't. And a few things about their guarantee bother me... => We cannot guarantee the disposition or temperament, conformation, size, weight, color, markings or breeding ability of your new puppy. They guarantee nothing! Temper...

Re: Buying a chow

I looked at the website that I could find. My 1st reaction is that the prices they list are unrealistically low. That in itself may not be a problem, but purebred Chows of any decent quality can fetch a minimum of $1500 in the US. So they are way below market. That may sound great, but who is giving...

Re: Chow Chow Eating Plastic

Timely post considering recent news that Pepto-Bismol recently added Xylitol to their formula. Xylitol is a sugar substitute that is poisonous to dogs, but FACT CHECK reveals that it the formula has not changed. Best to just be careful about what is left lying about. My dogs have always loved to che...

Re: aggression towards roommate... please advise

Sadly its a fairly common story with Chows. They do tend to be loyal to an individual person. You rescued a dog from someone who was single and then joined a family. The adjustment is difficult for Chows even without the added pressure of a child who tugs/pulls/corners. The result there is not all t...

Re: Want Info on Smooth Coat Chows!

I would say energy level is still individual. My Smooth is a rocket ship. He is constantly looking to go when he is getting attention, but relaxes quite a bit too. His father is a true floor mat.

Re: grooming

Trim and shape the fur around the paws. Trim between the paw pads. That's it. Occasionally you may need to cut a mat, but with regular grooming it shouldn't be necessary. Never shape any other areas or shave down. Do not cut the Guard Hairs...ever. You can thin the butt area with a rake if it gets t...

North East Chow Chow Breeders Association

1st off, I would like to say that I hope that I am not breaking any forum rules. If I am, please feel free to remove the post. I have been a member of this forum since 2011 and hopefully I have been able to provide some decent responses and advice over the years. Having owned Chows for the past 20 o...

Love the camper. That is next on our list. Happens to be the retirement plan. Grab the dogs and just Show the entire East Coast. I sent the photo to the wife and she is ready to go shopping.

Re: Getting a new chow!! What size harness ect should I buy???

Sorry for the late response, I haven't been on in a bit. Nice citation of the breed specifics, but that didn't come close to answering the question. Hopefully you know the description of the Chow breed at this point. Some breeders will give you a bit of a going home package, with a collar, leash, an...

Re: Want Info on Smooth Coat Chows!

Well, that is a lot of questions, but they all really go back to the same thing, so hear ya go... How often they need to be brushed depends on environment more than anything. It is hot and humid, or cool? Is he playing in the mud? Whatever the answer there, I would plan on at least once a week. It h...

Re: Should I get chow chow?

Maybe a bit late to the party, but I will add my 15 cents anyway. Regardless of what 'might' happen in the future with family acceptance, you should not get a dog (Chow or other) with the thought that it will be banished to living outside and not accepted as a member of the household. Chows in parti...

Re: 911!!!!

I don't really see it in the pic. But if you are really worried about it, know that the mask tends to fade as the dog ages. Young Chows will have a black masking that will fade. Maybe not 100%, but it will blend. Also, that darker coloring is actually a good thing. Cream Chows tend to lose the black...

Re: Hello! Looking To Adopt!

Very nice to see your post. Welcome! I think adopting out of the Houston area once you locate is a fantastic idea. Hope that works. I would offer a word of caution about relocating chows. If they are used to cooler climates they have trouble adjusting to the temp changes. I think local is better. Th...

Re: Chow Chow lover

Absolutely love the idea of promoting the Chow breed, as others have said. But I have owned Chows for over 20 years and have always discouraged my children from costuming the dogs. I have always told them that Chows are a proud breed and should not be subjected to such things. In my house we even ca...

Re: Hello! New Chow Lover

Welcome to the Forum Charlotte. I can certainly understand your attraction to the Chow breed. A well behaved and socialized Chow is really above and beyond any other breed in my opinion. And sure, taking care of that wonderful mane is a lot of work, but that bonding experience is unlike any other. J...

Re: seeking breeder information

This is tough. I did a search on Chow Chow Inc, which houses the registry for Chow pedigrees and didn't find anything. On the AKC website, the call name was too common and I couldn't get past 1994 litters. You could contact them to see if they can narrow the parameters outside the standard search. T...

Re: Cream chow chow nose colour

Constantina is correct. It is not a medical reason. It is simply a lack of pigment in the cream gene. Very few Cream Chows carry the black nose and mouth to adulthood. And those that do are very desirable to breeders. To my knowledge, there are no supplements that can help maintain the pigment. Some...
