Neuter After Care Question
I just got my 9 month old chow neutered and the Vet gave me a pain med and an anti-biotic
Do I start my chow on these meds tonight? Or should I wait till tomorrow to give him the pain meds? The vet didn't specify.

Re: Cars and Chows
I've noticed in my mom's sedan he really likes sitting in the center console which is really distracting and also dangerous for him.

Cars and Chows
I have had an SUV and its been really easy transporting Aslan around town, this week I'm about to get a sedan and I was wondering what the most convenient (as in lightweight) back seat set up would be for him?

Re: I screwed up - OCD light play
I know that a lot of people here are against or don't agree with Cesar Millan. I personally found him very helpful while I was researching Chows and puppies in general. I read a few of his books and I shamelessly indulge in dog whisperer episodes. It really helped me understand the psychology of do...

What do you mean Chows play with ghosts?Victory wrote:Your chow is trying to tell you that something is living behind the wall in that spot. They can hear and smell such things. Canines don't get OCD for no reason, (though chows do play with ghosts too).

Re: How to groom?
If you breeder meant once in a lifetime being from age 1 till the end.. then yes. Your breeder should have said twice per season. Your chow will blow their winter coat (Big shedding) and then once again in the fall (smaller shedding) as the new undercoat grows for winter! Your investment in combs a...

I screwed up - OCD light play
I manufacture pet toys and while exhibiting at a show I picked up a free sample of this mouse shaped laser pointer. It was supposed to exercise your cat, etc... I recently found it and played with my Chow with it and now hes chasing shadows and has been for the past 2 weeks. I've tried everything in...

Re: newly adopted Chow bolting out door
How old is your chow and is he neutered? My vet pointed out that if theres a female in heat in your area the chow can smell it and its a risky situation when they bolt out of the door. A lot of dogs get lost that way.

Re: Chow pup, Pictures + Questions!
My pup is 4 months old and I've noticed his coat changed from being rough to really really soft 2 weeks ago, after his first bath. I havent seen any shedding yet but I brush him every two days and bathe him every two weeks. His skin seems okay with baths but maybe that why I havent seen the shedding...

Re: Chow verses the pit bull
People are so terrified of Chows and are very respectful in their presence - I would do the same with pitbulls. Better assume the worst can happen in these situations.

Re: Ugh! People....
I've had my puppy for a month now... In South Africa, the indian community are very taken back by Chows. They REALLY love them because of the whole "ah, its a teddy" thing, but they ask the most inappropriate questions! They always ask me where i got her from and how much I paid! It kinda...

Re: want opinion
I would encourage you to get a new puppy to help overcome the loss of a beloved pet. Grief and depression can be debilitating, a new puppy is a great coping mechanism and in no way disrespectful to the memory of princess.

Re: What's everyone feeding?
4 month old chow eats EVANGERS PHEASANT wet food mixed with NOW! PUPPY dry food.
The breeder recommended it and hes tried other brands and protein types but loves Evangers pheasant. Its pretty awesome- just pheasant and water canned- thats it.

Re: Is this enough space? (crate training)
Thank you, the pen in the kitchen is a great recommendation. I work everyday from 10-6 and I stop by and play with him at 1PM for an hour, I feel bad hes in his crate.

Is this enough space? (crate training)
I just got a 9 week old chow chow yesterday and hes lovely. This is my first time crate training and I've browsed all the comments and advice in this forum. My only question is that I'm quite worried that I've made the space too small- I would like comments and your reviews on if this is enough spac...
