Once every two months is probably too often unless you use a very gentle shampoo and are very careful to get ALL of the shampoo rinsed out of the coat... otherwise skin irritation may result as time progresses. That is actually VERY typical of adult Chow Chow coats. The adult coat on the back often contains a higher percentage of the "guard" hairs... longer, straighter, and shinier than the hair elsewhere... and brushing it up towards the head is usually pretty futile.
