Re: Extremely aggressive chow puppy
And NO puppy should EVER be given as a gift. I agree with you completely there ... I've said this quite a few times on this forum already I believe. again and again people come here asking for help after they've received a chow puppy as a gift. It's qite sad really ... To waverider I'd only recomme...
Re: Stop!
That never happened to me. Though I have almost stepped on my chow quite a few times. She's sooo interested in all I'm doing and wants to be a part of it. So when I'm for instance washing the dishes she sits or walks around the kitchen watching me. She often comes and stands right behind me or somet...

Re: Help with new chow owner who is clueless
socialization. It's the key with chows really. If the puppy has had all it's shots then the owner should take it anywhere. Let people pet her, praise her when she does well and don't comfort her when she back away from ppl. then I suppose some house rules should be okay, to ensure that the puppy's n...

Re: Could I give a Chow Chow the home it deserves
I'd never buy those chows... I know you all probably think that would mean saving them but still ... Pet shops sell pets because people BUY them. buying a pet there means you just help them carry on with their business. Besides, you really don't want those chows if you're not really experienced and ...

well, she's usually waiting for me like this (even though she's not allowed on bed)

Re: How much exercise?
My Shosha has loads of energy, but she is only 7 months old but I believe she'll stay quite active
It depends on the dog... some have more, some less energy. I just think that we as owners should observe and we'll see when they've had enough there really are no rules

Re: Today is a sad day.. :(
well i agree that children do come first (probably ... don't have any yet :D lol) BUT what do you mean, the dog has to let children pull it's hair and everything. I'm sorry but children have to realize that the dog is not a toy. Now in Koda's case his bite was (as i understand) unprovoked, so it kin...

Re: Could I give a Chow Chow the home it deserves
Hello and welcome :D As you said, chows need to be socialized. All dogs do, but with chows it's VERY important. Socialization process doesn't begin when you get the 2 months old puppy, it's really important what the breeder has done. You can then just carry on, introduce puppy to strangers, take him...

Re: Today is a sad day.. :(
I'm really sorry to hear about what happened. I see you love Koda so much so I'd advise you to seek professional help. Someone that could work with Koda and actually figure out what the problem is. Now if you don't have energy or money for something like that, I hope you'll be able to find him a lov...

Re: from great eater to very picky eater :(
Chows are GREAT about self-regulating what they eat. I wouldn't worry about it at all. My Loha has had kibble in his bowl continuously for the entire 4 years of his life and he alone decides when and how much he eats. He is the very picture of athletic health. Loha's Dad That's what my breeder said...

Secondhandlion I really don't see anything wrong with carrying your puppy around ... I live in a flat in the 1st floor of a buliding. I had to carry mine out to potty and I still sometimes do (she's 7 months old now... quite heavy for me since I'm pretty short and "weak" constitution :mrgr...

Re: Food For Chows
I'm feeding my chow chicken based Arden Grange and she's got a wonderful coat and everything is okay... no problems at all
My friend (she doesn't have a chow though) feeds her dog Orijen and is very happy with it so I suppose I'd recommend that one because I know her dog is healthy

Re: New owner question, puppy or older?
Isn't it true that chows tend to "choose" their owner? If the chow is 2 years old I don't know how she will bond with her new owners ... she's had a nice home till now, it's not like taking in a rescue You never know though ... I'd definately visit them. If she's properly socialized should...

Re: Jealous...?
Hello, welcome :) It sounds as if you didn't really consider socializing your chow...? not allowing anyone else to touch her is not okay or normal. She's bonded with you too much (yes I said too much :P). chow are very protective of their owners and you shouldn't encourage that too much ... what hap...

And I really don't care! Now see, that's tipical american behaviour ... not caring about anyone else. I live in Europe, in a country none of you have ever heard of probably. Dog lovers here believe that even Royal Canin isn't a good foor for your dogs ... (that's people who actually care what their...

It's sooo strange! I let Shosha off leash a few times now (and I probably won't be doing it again) and most times she came when I called her. But sometimes she just ignored me. She heard me calling, looked at me and went off.
Well, it's a part of the chow chow charm I believe

I used to give my dog Royal Canin, but her fur was kind of dry (or whatever expersion is used to describe a coat that's not as it should be)... but some other chow owners I know are quite happy with it

I could not resist posting a few of the photos I've taken this one was taken a few days after I got her. I still had my christmas tree up (a really small one) and she thought she'd arrange it a bit. After running around and making a mess she fell asleep next to it. http://i1107.photobucket.com/album...

Re: i need help, my 1st dog ever a chow chow
School her. I really learned how to walk my dog at school. It's actually more for people than for dogs  but still, it's sad that people still haven't realized that dogs are not "gifts". You can't give someone a chow chow (or any other breed) for their birthday. I mean, it's a serious...
