I named my Maximus after the character in The Gladiator. I love that film. So everytime Maximus barks I would yell "Are you not entertained?!" Quite the way the character did in the movie.

Victory, thanks for the recommendation, I'll be reading the site shortly.

Oooh simbasmom, the recipe looks good enough for me. I might just try that so my Maximus could have some treats. :D

Wow Nancy, thanks for sharing that. I sure don't want Maximus going through allergies and itch. Well I just got him Nutro natural choice lamb & rice meal (the one for large breed puppies). As I expected, it cost considerably higher than what I've been feeding him. Also, I had to do a bit of trav...

Good thing his purina supply is almost finished! Does he need getting used to a different kind of brand and how is this done? Or do I just feed him a different brand on the spot and just like that? I'm going to go look for Nutro this afternoon. Coz I'm supposed to get him a new supply of food....

Lots of replies! All are so helpful. So I guess I don't have to worry too much about him being too active. Kiwani, I feed him Purina Alpo (dry kibbles I think is what its called). I think I'd let him just play with some of my aunt's dogs (a shih tzu and a daschund, both one year old) as she lives on...

Jeff, I am a new parent to my Maximus. So I still have a lot to learn. But I think since Maximus is still a baby, I'd have to be with him almost always when he goes potty so I can give him praises or positive reinforcements when he does the right thing. I am really hoping that I am doing it right. B...

Hi Nancy and Mandy! Things are doing great with us. Although he had an "accident" earlier. Although I have to admit I should have been more observant of him, I caught him in the act and told him a firm "no". I just ignored him while I was cleaning up after him. I've read about th...

Jeff, please please please DO NOT restrict his food or water intake just because you cannot accommodate it in your schedule. If you are away, have someone in your family look after him for you. It simply doesn't do. It would be very unkind of you if you will not meet these very basic needs. You pupp...

plans for Maximus and our first visit to the vet

This post is going to be very long, but I hope it would also interest you guys. Maximus is 2 months old today! :D And tomorrow will be our first week together. This afternoon was our first visit to the vet. I had been a bit worried that he would fuss and whine at the vet, but I am very proud to say ...

Thanks for all the opinions! Maximus and I have begun yesterday, and I'm trying to be observant as best as I can. Thanks for the input, sweetpea. So it will be confusing to him, hmm. He's still young (turning two months old tomorrow) so I guess I could still correct this confusing habit.

These are really great advice. I've wanted to post and ask about potty training too, but jeff2 already did. New baby!

Hello everyone! I just got owned by a chowling named Maximus. I got him yesterday, and things are going well as far as adjusting and getting to know each other is concerned. Actually I've registered in the forums a few months already and was just content to read and learn before I got Maximus. And n...
