In Memory of Sophie

Tomorrow it will be a month since I had to make the decision to say good-by to my sweet Sophie. Since the day she picked me at the shelter, she was the best fur friend I could have every asked for. I miss her everyday. I know my decision was the right one, but it doesn't really lessen the pain. My b...

There is something so wonderful about that first zoomie when you adopt a rescue. Lilly knows she is home and safe :D .

Re: My Little Lilly

I haven't been on the site in awhile. Logged in today and saw your post. What wonderful news! I am so happy that you were ready to adopt a new chow when Lilly was looking for a home.

Re: ugh.... am in massive need of a break

David,

In light of your recent encounter with a bear, I thought you might find this article about avoiding bear conflicts interesting. I ran across it on a hiking site--

Re: Tent camping advise

Sounds like Shen Lung and Feng Huang are quite the ambassadors at the campground. How fun! I did get out a couple of times with Sophie. She just loves being outdoors, especially if she gets to go swimming in the lake. She has also turned into a good guard dog. The last time we went camping we were j...

Re: Silly Chow!!

I always know when the weather is starting to warm up from winter to spring, because that is when Sophie starts up again with her water bowl. After she is done splashing in it, she likes to then lay in the water that she's splashed out.

Re: Beach Blanket Bingo

Sounds like a good day. I wish we lived closer, Sophie really loved running up and down the beach there. I think her favorite part was finding the stinking dead fish to roll in #-o . I do think going out there is a good form of socialization. Lily has you to protect her if need be. If Lily has learn...

Re: Yoshi the protector,

There was an article in the local paper not that long ago about how there is an effort underway to bring back the native rattlesnake to Illinois. It is supposedly much less venomous than their southern cousins. All I could think was why would you want to bring them back? I'd have been screaming if I...

How was camping this weekend? Did Shen Lung and Feng Huang do okay?

Re: Tent camping advise

Juniper, Thanks for all the great ideas. I wish I could find a discontinued REI tent, what a great deal you must have gotten. I love the idea of having a vestibule in case of rain. I hadn't thought about a second layer inside the tent. But that make perfect sense. I can see Sophie puncturing the flo...

Re: Tent camping advise

Victory, I can remember looking at a Scottie Pup back in the early 70's with my folks. I loved it then, but my 6' tall Dad really didn't fit in it. So they didn't buy one. One of these days is right... Auddy, those are the pictures I remember! Sophie would love that creek. I have to write that park ...

Re: Tent camping advise

I am thinking about tent camping, 'cause my Hyundai Elantra just isn't big enough to pull much weight. But man, I think I am in love with this baby http://www.scottytrailers.com/pup.php . I think Sophie would love the outdoors and the walkies. I am not to sure about the other campers. Auddy I think ...

Tent camping advise

I am looking for something to do on the weekends that would get Sophie and me out of the house and into nature. I was thinking about trying tent camping with her. Anyone tried camping with their dogs? Any advise? Thanks.

David, If you are being silly and a spoiled brat, then color me with the same crayon. It has only been 3 1/2 weeks since I lost Riley, but I am considering adding a new cat (Brady) to my home, so Oscar will not be so lonely. Bif could not find a better home than yours if that is what you decide. At ...

Can you imagine stopping a 115 pounds of chow if he decided to take off after a squirrel? You'd go flying if you were on the end of his leash!

I wanted to let you know that Riley died this morning. He fainted this morning and as I rushed him to the vet's office he stopped breathing. They were not able to resictate him. Cool chow print

I found a cool vintage chow print on Ebay. It is from 1941--

I can see where Sophie got some of her facial features when I look at this print.
