I've noticed that she has brown eyes. When we got Bruin, she had the deepest blue eyes. Her eyes turned Brown with a blue background when she turned two. It's so cool.

Willow girl is such a sweetie!

To Willow Chow: I've noticed your blue girl too. She's beautiful!!!! In fact, all of the chows on this site and (not on this site) are beautiful. I use to have a fawn chow who passed away from Cushings in 2000. I will try to get some pictures posted soon. Her appointment isn't until next week and sh...

I do realize that just because she's old isn't a satisfactory answer. I do intend to contact my vet. I meant to say (write), from what I've read on the subject, part of the problem IS her being old. As for the Science Diet, thanks, I didn't know that. She's had SD since she was a puppy. I appreciate...

Thanks for your reply. I did read up on this and a lot of this is simply because she's old. It's very common in older dogs. I'm still going to call the vet when they open this week. As for wondering why she's on a high carb diet? I don't understand. She eats Science Diet Senior dry dog food. She has...

Urinating Unknowingly

Hi, I'm a recent member of this forum. I have an 11 1/2 year old blue female chow chow. To date, Bruin is, and always has been a healthy girl. About 2 months ago, I noticed a small puddle of water by her bum area. While cleaning it up, it didn't smell or look like urine. It wasn't a lot but enough t...

Just a dog

Hello all, One of my friends sent this to me and I wanted to share with all of you. I don't know who wrote it but I hope you like it. Enjoy. Just a Dog From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't underst...

Great Pictures of the storm and of your chow! I LOVE his smile. We (Boston) got socked too. Bruin couldn't wait to go outside in roll in the snow. My blue chow turns white before my eyes. She also gets very frisky and wants to play. So what do I do? I get dressed from head to toe and go outside and ...

My oldest dog Brandi passed away on 5/2/00 of Cushings. Her picture was placed in the gallery section of the following website: http://www.io.com/~lolawson/cushings/ Three people emailed me offering their condolences and asked what kind of dog she was. I realize it wasn't a great picture of her but,...

Hi,
Have you tried puttting on some soft music? The music created a nice diversion for both of our "kids", it kept them company. Also, I placed a sweatshirt of my husbands in her pen. It was for her to get his scent. It seemed to confort her.

Good luck,

Hello,
I've read in books and other information on Chow Chows that the life expectancy of a Chow Chow is 11-12 years.
I've known people who had Chow Chows that have lived to 14 years. My oldest lived until she was 10. It all depends.

Hope this helps,

Have you ever taken her to a groomer? We're fortunate, we know of a groomer that takes Chows. We go every 6 weeks. Bruin smells so pretty and clean when she comes home. She's been going since she was a puppy and had all of her puppy shots. I understand Some groomers can be very expensive. Ours is ve...

I'm envious to those that can keep their dog off leash. I guess it comes with training them at a very young age. My oldest chow Brandi (now departed) got out of the yard. My husband left the gate ajar while working in the yard. We found her sitting on the front steps of our house watching people wal...

Your kids are beautiful! How long does it take for them to dry off? My "daughter" goes to the groomer every 6 weeks. I've known the groomer for a long time and she does an excellent job on my Bruin. She schedules her for early morning because it takes forever for her to dry. Hmmm, wonder w...

..as the saying goes, there are no bad dogs, only bad trainers and owners.
It's up to the owner to take responsibility on training and socializing

Congratulations on becomming a chow chow owner. They're great! My oldest chow Brandi was taught the "heal" and "stay" command. We live on a busy street so I wanted to make sure she was extremely familiar with these commands. It didn't take long for her to learn them. I was also a...

How Smart are Chow Chows?

My husband and I ask that question everytime we get a snow storm and we're out shoveling snow up to our elbows and our "daughter" is in the warm house watching us through the sliding glass door. OR, when we're leaving for work on a cold, dark winters morning. She's inside sleeping. I want ...

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I was told by my breeder along with my vet to feed her dry dog food. I give her Science Diet. They have it for different stages too. Ever since she was a puppy, I would fill up her bowl in the morning and leave it there. She eats when she's hungry. This still works and ...
