I would love to see the photo and pair it was a critique. I wish there was a site/place where I could find a bunch of those so I could learn what judges look for in chows and how the subtle differences in appearance are marked.

Start doing "alone training" with him. I think you can google some articles on it... It's very common for other breeds to have S.A. (separation anxiety) so there are lots of resources out there that can help you. Also important to not make a big fuss when you come/go. Practice leaving room...

Where are you located? I highly suggest you look into adopting a Chow. That way, the dog will already have a set personality and you may know in advance if they are good with kids.
