Re: Relocating Chow from China to US
I have flown a Chow across the United States - no problem! The entire flight duration was (I believe) 8 hours? He was perfectly fine and much more content than I would have expected. Do you have a picture of your Chow's face? Just wondering what her face shape is like .... there is a bit of variatio...

Re: pls help me with my Chow
I don't quite understand the whole situation (not because of your grammar, but what transpired). Before I get into any details (your sister wouldn't let you PET her?!), this dog needs to go to a vet. Get a full-checkup and likely bloodwork, stool samples, etc done. Bubbles does not sound healthy in ...

Re: first time dog owner.
Are you using any training resources? You should definitely socialize your new dog as much as you can. Group obedience courses are excellent for that! I highly recommend you take him to a class. Also, check out some training books! Look for ones with methods you will use - such as clicker training. ...

Re: Are Chows Playful?
Welcome to the forum! Greyhounds are also one of my favorite breeds, I work with the local adoption center here too! They are a wonderful breed, but you are right -different from chows. In my experience with rescued Chows, they are mellow, laid-back, and not overtly affectionate (ie. compared to my ...

Chow sitter in San Diego?
Hello, I am looking for a short-term Chow sitter for an 8-10 year old well behaved neutered male, William. He is sweet, mellow (low energy), and loves attention. Good off-leash and with other dogs. Please let me know if you live in the San Diego area (or within 30 minutes of it) and would be willing...

Re: Judges critique B.U.B.A. Open Show April 2011
Do you have pictures??
I would love to see the photo and pair it was a critique. I wish there was a site/place where I could find a bunch of those so I could learn what judges look for in chows and how the subtle differences in appearance are marked.

Re: Doggy anxiety
Start doing "alone training" with him. I think you can google some articles on it... It's very common for other breeds to have S.A. (separation anxiety) so there are lots of resources out there that can help you. Also important to not make a big fuss when you come/go. Practice leaving room...

Re: help for wanna' be chow owner
Where are you located? I highly suggest you look into adopting a Chow. That way, the dog will already have a set personality and you may know in advance if they are good with kids. Your behavior/routine and dedication to training and safety make the biggest difference though!! So keep researching no...

Re: different types of chows
My female Chow has the "classic" look- more of a long face and no wrinkles. She pure Chow (couldn't mistake her attitude with any other breed ;)), though I I have noticed a lot of variation within the breed- as this thread demonstrates. Does anyone here show? I'm guessing more show lines h...

Best shampoo for Chows?
I recently gave my chow a bath at the petstore (they offer a full tub/table....and let you do it yourself)....it worked out well and Niki was way less stressed than she usually is at the groomers. Best of all, she is finally clean! The pet stores provides an average shampoo/conditioner....but I was ...

Re: New morning cough??
It's been a weird past couple of days!! Niki had another little health scare that is likely not related to the coughing. Just two nights ago, her entire mouth swelled up!! We noticed it when we were giving her a piece of chicken and she couldn't chew it! The vet said to give her 25 mg of Benadyl at ...

New morning cough??
My ten year old Chow sounds like she's developed a strange, early morning cough I noticed on mainly on Friday. It sort of sounds like a combination of coughing/choking (like dry heaves), but her behavior hasn't changed at all (still in a good mood). She threw up on Friday after eating a ton of grass...
