Re: Shampooing Chow
I found the best and easiest way to shampoo your chow. I take her up to the lake because she loves to wade into the water, get her good and wet, back onto the shore, soap her down and take her back into the lake. You could probably do the same with a kiddie pool in the back yard. She enjoys it and i...

I use a British slip lead, the leash and collar are all one piece and there is no escaping or breakage of the fur around her neck. Believe me i have tried them all and this is the best.

Re: They shaved my dog completely!! help!
My main complaint about having Maggie bathed by groomers is that 90% of the time you cannot see what's going on. I'm still trying to find a place that I can witness her being bathed. One main problem i have solved is I walk my Maggie everyday and I have never had to cut her nails. It's getting bath ...

Whiskers on a purebred.
When I purchased Maggie at 7 months old she was being shown in puppy classes. She had no whiskers and now a few yrs later they are 6 or 7 inches long. Do any of you trim your dogs whiskers or you just leave them be?

Re: New Chow Owner Needs Direction
Maggie wants to run with me but all that is a quick walk for me and I'm 74 yrs old. She is a pure bred show puppy and she would tire quickly on anything more than a mile, This Georgia heat has been in the high 90s so we dont leave the house until 8pm and home in 1/2 hour and she is panting pretty go...

Maggie must pee 20 times on our daily walk, towards the end there isn't anything left. I would not be concerned with an infection unless she can't hold herself in the house, then I'd have her looked at.

I had a vet tech show me how to wrap gauze around my finger and rub the teeth, You can add doggy toothpaste but you would be amazed that even a wet gauze will remove some discoloration off the teeth. I know they are tough dogs but lots of loving helps.

I'm so sorry, Maggie escaped from her fenced in run the other day but I was lucky the neighbors got in their auto and tracked her down and got her home to me. I would have been heartbroken if I lost her.I'll say a prayer she comes home.

I took her to the vet before I received any answers from all of you. He found some blood in her urine, got her on some meds twice a day. Thank you all for answering.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, She will not chase a ball, looks at me as if to say "What did you do that for"? The only thing that interest her is a ride in the truck, going for a walk or "Is it time for dinner"? I have a closet full of bones, stuffed toys given to her by friends a...

Re: perfect vacation for chow
You do not have to go all the way to South Florida, the panhandle of Florida would save you about 5 or 6 hrs driving time and the white sand beaches are prettier. There are very few places to take a dog to the beach in So. Fl. Ask me I know. Ft Lauderdale charges $5 a day to use about 100 yds of the...

What you don't understand is the Chow is a COOL dog. He will look at you when HE wants to. He will come to you when HE wants to. Thats what we love about the breed, I have 2 1st place obedience ribbons from my past dog. Do you think I could get Maggie to walk by my side? If she wants to. It's taken ...

I believe I have tried all the collars so let me tell you what works best. I purchased Cesar's collar and it was OK, I just felt it was difficult to get on and off. I tried the martingale from one of the members suggestions on this site. I wound up chasing her down the street with the collar in my h...

I have been using Nutros lamb and rice with Maggie as well as my last dog Chinabear. She get dry lamb and rice with a large dollop of wet lamb and rice twice a day. She is healthy, skin and hair are beautiful and licks the bowl until it slides accross the floor.

Do many of you allow the vet to use the Bordetella nasal vacine? I understand it is used if the dog is boarded, around other dogs constantly, grooming places or dog shows. Other than that is it really necessary? Does the dog need all these vacines?

I have also tried them all. The choke collars break the hair around her neck. I tried the martingale from someones advice on this forum and wound up chasing her down the street with the collar and leash in my hand. Then realized it has to be adjusted to get it on, readjusted after it's on and then a...
