Re: Elsa in first heat :/
We allowed Gracie to go into heat before having her spayed, we had been told the same thing. I don't know if there is any truth to it or not, but it made sense to me, so we waited. I was told also to make sure to wait a few weeks afterwards before having it done. I think we waited three months. I ca...

Re: Vicious Fighting
18 to 20 months is about the age my two females first got into a vicious fight. They had to be kept apart for around a week because the youngest was bound and determined to pick up where she left off any chance she could get. Thought we had things under control and it happened again with another sev...

Re: Zahra, meds...
I use American cheese for Gracie. I just roll the pill in a strip of cheese. Like Rory's dad said, it's a straight on gulp. When I ran out of cheese one night, I just cut a small piece of a hotdog, stuffed the pill in there and it was the same thing, gulp and the pill was gone. She never knew she ju...

Re: Zahra, meds...
Gracie is taking three different medications right now. I have been rolling one pill at a time in cheese. Last night we ran out of cheese so I cut small pieces of hotdogs, stuffed a pill in each piece and so far have had no problems. She doesn't seem to even notice the pills in them.

Re: Doorbell Reaction
I haven't posted in a long time but I love this thread. For the longest time, everytime Gracie heard a doorbell on the tv she was running to the door barking. We would laugh and tell her it's the tv silly. Ever since our doorbell stopped working, she doesn't get as excited when she hears one on the ...

My son-in-law lived with us when we first got Gracie. She will be six in March and to this day she tolerates him only. I think they have reached an agreement, she will let him in the house, he can even stay here when they visit, just keep the hands off of her, don't even look at her and she agrees t...

Re: Looking for quick advice!
I have no clue what happened. Princess was standing by me, Gracie was trying to get her to play and then all at once it turned to a fight. I was right there. My husband called the vet and explained the situation. The vet said bring her in tomorrow and he will work with us on getting it paid and tryi...

Looking for quick advice!
I know this is suppose to be in the health section but we need help now. Princess and Gracie got into a bad fight tonight. Princess has a big gash on her head. At first I thought it was small but deep but after looking at it better discovered it's pretty wide. We do not have the money for a vet, sim...

Re: Toy issues to throw or not to throw
That is Princess. What she does is greet us or others with a toy or object. If someone takes the toy and tosses it because they think she wants to play, she just stands there looking so hurt. You would not believe how many times people have apologized to her after throwing the toy! With Princess it ...

Re: Kuma just attacked our Pom...PLEASE HELP!!!
We have this problem with our girls when it comes to bones, yummy foods and treats. They will stand side by side eating their dog food, no problem. Put my left over porkchops in their dishes and you can bet the first one finished will try to steal from the other and a fight will break out. Anytime t...

Re: New User - Plz Plz Help! I want to keep my Chow!
She is also clueless when Daisy is getting aggressive. She just wants to play. They have separate food dishes, one eats inside the other outside - it's always been that way and has worked out well. Are you sure this is aggression and not Daisy playing? We had this discussion on the other board not ...

Re: My Chow bit my daughter...
I just want you to know that its not a lost cause, Gracie is proof of that. Gracie bit my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter on the face twice. Luckly they weren't bad but did break the skin (she has a small scar from the second one). I had went outside for a minute leaving my daughter to watch the kids w...

Re: Chows and Autism
I have never actually known anyone with autism and know very little about it. My daughter started babysitting a 4 year old boy that seemed autistic which is what lead me to pick autism for my research paper. While doing the research, I started finding all this about the vaccination possibly being on...

Re: I thought this was so sweet.
I love waking up to Gracie cuddled up next to me in bed. She and Princess sleep on the floor next to the bed, but just about every morning after my husband gets up, I'll wake up to Gracie sleeping in his spot. Another thing I think is sweet is when it storms at night, Princess will jump up on the be...

Re: Chows and Autism
There is no proof of the connection. Some studies claim the mercury in the vaccinations causes the autism. Its said that the symptoms of murcury poisioning resembles symptoms of autism. Also, its said that a child tends to show signs of autism around the same age that the MMR is given. Some studies ...

Last semester I did a paper on Autism. I wish I would have known about you two, I really could have put together an awesome paper. I went the path of vaccinations but I would have went in another direction with it had I known about you two.

Makes me think of a walk me and Gracie took on the trail. We was walking along as normal, all at once Gracie jumped up on a tree stump, got in position and pooped. I stood there with my mouth hanging open in total shock at what I was seeing. She had never before just randomly jumped up on a tree stu...

And I thought Gracie was the queen of guilt trips! When I would grab my shoes to leave for class, Gracie would get up and walk away. Would not walk me to the door or anything. Just lay on the foot of the bed with the saddest look I have ever seen. Wouldn't even lift her head up to respond to me. I a...

Re: Two same s-x chows
I agree with Jonathan, you have to be able to diffuse the situation before it happens. I learned the signs only after fights broke out. Now its just second nature to constantly be aware of how Gracie is feeling. Paying close attention to her body language and reacting before the fight happens. This ...

I don't think it was a rattlesnake. Compare the markings of this fox snake to the one you took a picture of. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c305/bpatsellis/FoxSnakeFigure7.jpg "Fox snakes, like many other harmless snakes, sometimes mimic rattlesnakes by vibrating their tails. This defensive ...

Re: Two same s-x chows
I have two females. Gracie is 4 and Princess is 5. The two do well together BUT we have to pay close attention to Gracie's moods. If for some reason she gets frustrated about something, she will turn on Princess at the blink of an eye. What I have noticed is she has a tendancy to hold a grudge again...

Re: jump in the car
I have the opposite problem with Gracie. If she thinks her ride was too short, she will refuse to get out! lol, I spent five minutes yesterday trying to convince her that she had a long enough ride. I finally had to make her get out of the car. Once they make their minds up to something, it's tough ...

I wish we could find someone like that for Gracie. Last year Gracie made friends with a lady I met at school. When she came over, Gracie would lay on the sofa next to her (touching her), we took them for walks with my friend walking Gracie. Gracie loves her. We went to St. Louis one day, all excited...
