Re: Issues with new pup coisty
I dont know anything about breeding, but i have two chows...my first one, beautiful, healthy and so easily trained. my second chow, my little girl was AWFUL as a puppy. i remember crying one night becasue i was at my wits end. Re: Chow-compatible breeds?
I would say its less of a breed thing and more of a personality thing. I would also suggest picking a breed similar in size or at least one that could play with a chow. (LAB, GOLDEN, ETC.) my chows arent aggressive, but they love to be rough an tumble. I would worry about buying a new dainty dog and...

Doggy anxiety
Wondering if this is familiar for any of you... my 4 year old male tucker, if truly a mans best friend. not your typical chow either. highly sensitive, sweet, caring, BUT is showing new signs of anxiety, yes about noises and 'weird things' outside but more and more about us. He has been following me...

by the way, your lily looks soooo much like my penny. Penny is my 50 lb, 3 yr old female, who is so sweet and playful. Long lost sisters?

Re: Greenies Pill Pockets
They are the best! My little one has some health problems and she LOOKS FORWARD to getting her pills in these. THey are truly a godsend...otherwise she shuts her jaws, we have to pry them open stuff it in, hold her mouth shut, its awful. Now we make her sit and beg and she gets a treat...little does...

Re: Eating out
adorable! My little penny will go outside to the water dish and lay down, super dog style (legs straight back) and wrap her paws around the bowl and drink. Sometimes when she is done she rests her chin on the edge of the dish. lazy??? no, i think smart.

Re: Invisible Fence
Judy, it is really common here in the states for dog owners to get this "invisible fence" installed. it is a wire that is installed underground creating a perimeter. the dog then wears a collar around its neck and when it attempts to cross the wire the dogs gets a small electrical charge (...

HEAT WAVE
Here in Pennsylvania, and most of the East Coast is experiencing an oppressive heat wave. Be sure to keep your chowlings in the AC, and if they are outside remember to keep them wet, especially thier heads. My dogs can't take it at all. They are hiding in the bedrrom which is dark and cool and my AC...

***I should mention that he was escaping from 5' high privacy fences...it was extremely difficult for him to get out. We still to this day cannot figure out how he did it...he clearly stressed out and panicking to get out.

Re: Should my boys always be together?
I have to agree, dont make concious efforts to seperate them. HOWEVER the comment made about 'IF something happens to one the other will be devastated' may end up being true...i had a very personal experience with this, and this is obviously ONE account of what could happen. You should also know tha...

I am no expert on this so please listen to others when it come to a good way to handle the intro. This is my first reaction, take from it what you will: I would definately have a meeting on neutral ground on leashes with two adults present...you may not want to be the one holding a leash in case the...

penny has anaplasmosis
Hello all, i was hoping to have some feedback... I took penny in for her one year vet appointment yesterday. Although she was misbehaving a bit, the visit went pretty well. However when they did the tests she tested positive for ANAPLASMOSIS. the doctor said it is from ticks so we should continue to...

Re: Some advise please
Good morning. I agree with the last post about crates...chewing can be a young phase, however if they get used to it, it becomes a habit. Crating is a GREAT solution as well as a good solution to other bad habits (trash can issues, etc.) Most likely if your chow seems to have a good disposition, and...

Re: what is your chow chow's eating habits?
My two chows went through this as well...now they are both back to gobbling. i feed them each 1 measured cup of dry food 2x daily. they gobble it up...but this way i do not feel guilty about treating liberally for good behavior. just because they gobble does not mean they need more and because they ...

My tucker is a pretty relaxed chow unless i invite him up on the furniture...he just gets so excited. So one time i invited him up and instead of going around the coffee table and up onto the couch, he literally lept onto the coffee table and immediatly onto the couch. i had never seen anything like...

this post really hits home...i have two chows. My male loves everyone and is very curious of anyone who may stroll by or come to visit. My little female will LOVE some people off of the bat without hesitation and bark endlessly at others until they give her a treat or pet her or until she dubs then ...

thank you for asking...next week are her x-rays, so that will really reveal the results. For now the pain medication has helped immensely, i can still see a little limp in the afternoon.
