Re: Growling and aggression
I also had an older chow - male and 11yrs old at the time we brought our 8 month old female home. They had a couple of "spats" when it came to food, that had to be broken up quickly (my husband received an incidental bite to the leg/knee while breaking them up one time). I really really fe...

Re: Beneful vs Nutro
I had to laugh when I read Jeffs post about Pekoe always leaving 3 pieces - mine chow baby does the exact same thing every time - 3 pieces! Thought it was just her - guess not!!!!! Regarding the Beneful vs Nutro - the Beneful has got to go!!!! Regarding the Free or Scheduled feeding - Well one of mi...

Re: Food for Joint Health?
We use Dasuquin for my 12 yr old boys arthritic hips - I believe it really has made a difference for him. I am sure its similar to Cosequin - though they bill themselves as "the new generation of Cosequin". It comes in strengths based on their weight (my guy is about 85 lbs). A bit of a si...

Re: Evo Red Meat Formula dog chow
I heard the same thing when it comes to Chows - that they dont need really high levels of protein. But again, no real info on if there would really be a significant difference in a food with 20 grams vs one with 26 grams. (I believe I read it shouldnt really have more than 20 per serving) I have bee...

Re: PLEASE CHECK THIS OUT
Only 3 weight choices???.... I have never seen a Chow (nor would I want to ) that weighed 28 lbs or less. I homemake my chowbabies dinner now using Ground Turkey, Brown Rice and Fresh Veggies (steamed and chopped fine or they will pick them out like any good kid would). This is quite cost effective ...

Re: can chows follow routine..
I agree - Routine, routine, routine. My oldest chow has had his inner clock for 12 years and its never been off (I think it even covers daylight savings). He knows exactly when I am coming home and when its time to walk - and let me tell you its a routine that you do not want to vary from, its his w...

Re: Let me introduce myself...
Congratulations to you Andrew - you have entered a world you will never want to leave - the Chow world. And congratulations to Keisha for being found by a caring and generous person. I wish more people would adopt the older babies - they have so much to offer. I agree with everyone here - it just ta...

Re: HELP: Need Some Advice!! Getting a new girl...
Well we did it - and she is a doll!!! I picked her up on Thursday (she bonded with me right away when I met her). As soon as I got home with her, my husband and I took her for a walk and then introduced her to our other Chow Chow at a park next to the house. They did great and continued to do so at ...

Re: HELP: Need Some Advice!! Getting a new girl...
Forgot to mention - we are going to see the new girl this weekend. I believe the current owners may be willing to let us take her overnight on Saturday to see how it goes. (Now once this baby comes to my house, I doubt I will ever let her go back.) But we will find out for sure when we go on Saturda...

HELP: Need Some Advice!! Getting a new girl...
I am looking at getting another chow but I am worried about what it might do to my older chow baby who is 11 (fixed male). The girl I am looking at is 8 months old and hasnt been fixed yet. I dont think I have a way to get her fixed first and then bring her home, so I am not sure if this will make a...
