Re: Strange changes in Chow

Is it the *Censored Word* area that is the itch part? If so have a groomer express them. I never had to have it done, but have heard of others. have her thyroid checked T3 or T4 test? Jasmine stopped eating, well enough to keep her alive but she was a differnt dog. Hair got thin had severe allergies...

Re: Getting Chow to cuddle (update)!

So I have been working with getting Jasmine to let me hang out closer to her. Last night I sat down in the middle of the floor with her and a human brush. (round tip plastic/rubber) instead of the typical dog brushes. I started brushing her out, and she actually laid flat and closed her eyes and rel...

Re: Please help solve a problem

I hate to say it but i really dislike little dogs. (ankle biters, yappers, pee on your floor when they visit, nasty attitude, hyper things) They were probably suffering from little dude syndrome, so to make themselves feel more adequate around such a big opponent, they try to get in the first word. ...

Jasmines habit is to cross her front paws when she lays down. I think there is a lady in there trying to get out???

Re: Getting Chow to cuddle

Thank you for your responses. I feel a bit better knowing that it might not be me. She loves hugs, (quick, your a good girl, I wuv you, not leave me alone) type. She likes affection, and greets me at the car, follows us around. I got her to hang out on my bed for a bit, she went to the bottom, drape...

Getting Chow to cuddle

I luv Jasmine very much. But I swear she just tolerates me. She has a pillow in the living room, she lays on that or near the couch. She lays by the front door to keep watch, she sleeps at night in my bathroom on the cool tile. During the day while we are gone she sleeps on my sons bed looking out t...

Re: MY FIRST AND LAST BEAUTIFUL CHOW

I was just thinking in the back of my head.... Maybe he is being more relaxed because he can. He isnt trying to be alpha now? Maybe it was/is too much stress on him to be in charge of everything. Controlling the family, the people who stop by, the animals that roam outside? Funny, but I saw myself i...

Re: Suki & Infected Hot Spot ???? HELP

Jasmine had hotspots that got really out of control. After much testing it turned out to be severe allergy to fleas and her thryroid was not working right. Put her on meds, took care of fleas (which we never could find one) and her hot spots went away. She has a recurring on one her inner thigh, we ...

Re: Problem with Max's eyes, nose & mouth

I would have them check for allergies first. Is max on a good quality food? I give mine lamb & rice. Jasmine got scaly on her rump, and was loosing hair like crazy, turned out to be thyroid. But with her skin as bad as it was, we changed everything. Funny looking skinny dog with a mane around her he...

Re: Skin Problems - Black Stuff / Balding! HELP!

Please get the thyroid tests done. I know the vet says its a skin issue, my vet said the same thing at first. But someone from this site recommended the T3 and T4 testing done. I did it and it turned out to not be a skin issue. I had already purchased the special shampoo and oil caps for her. Within...

Adding to family

Jasmine has been the princess since we got her when she was a few months old. I was thinking of adopting another chow, (found one that could be her twin little brother) but I wouldnt want her to feel that I kicked the pedestal out from under her. She is great in every way, but not a lap chow like my...

Re: Does appearence change during the summer?

Jasmine was diagnosed when she was 4. She went bald, lethargic, hot spots, not interested in eating. Once we went thru all the foods, the skin stuff, finally I had enough, poor girl was miserable. I asked for the full blood work. I had it adjusted once, the rest of the tests she said are normal wher...

Does appearence change during the summer?

Jasmines hair is thin, and strange looking. She is on thyroid medications. Levels are good. Freinds see her and say "oh you got her the summer cut" It really looks like I took childrens sissors to her hair. The fluff is gone, the poofs behind her legs are there, the lion mane is so thinned out, I ha...

Re: Does your chow swim

Jasmine jumped onto our boat when we left the house to take it to the boat ramp. (short trip, figured why not?) So we get to the ramp, backing the truck down and SPLASH. She did not want to be left on the boat alone. She swam to the bulkhead, I took her paw and guided up to the ramp. Skinny, soaking...

Re: Skin Issues...... Sad dog

The day after I started the medication, I was in the kitchen and I heard "squeek squeek sqweek" I looked over and saw that Jasmine had dug into her toybox, got out a toy and was playing with it. She has not touched that box in almost a year. I was going to get rid of it, so I put it in a corner. I t...

I will get to see the 2 pages of paperwork they gave him for the bloodwork when I get home. I also got a copy of the allery testing that was done on her. I can see for myself how high the flea allergy is. I knew this was not all because of a flea that she may/or may not have. I spray the yard, the h...

Re: Skin Issues...... Sad dog

The vet called me tonight, said that her thryroid test came back low, she has an underactive thryroid. So tomorrow I pick up her prescription. She feels that much of her skin issues are related to this. I am going to try to just keep her on the proplan lamb, with the oil on it. The oil is the hair a...
