Re: Rescue Chows vs Breeder Chows
This has been a great thread to read and get caught up on. One good thing about being gone dealing with swollen creeks, rivers and flooding is... I didn't miss much. I have had breeder chows and now I have a rescue. Tai just happened to "drop" into my life because our vet knew Tai needed m...

Re: Nutro food scare!
I have to agree with Jeff. 10+ years of being on the same dog food and Pekoe being as healthy as she is, says alot. And after all he's been through with Pekoe, I'm sure if he had any inkling at all that something was wrong with Nutro, he'd take Pekoe off of it completely, no questions asked. I have ...

Re: Will the REAL Berkley please stand up!
I'm glad to hear that Berkley is doing so well, especially post-op for the entropian. Tai had entropian surgery done on his left eye in January. I cried the first time I saw him after surgery. But it sure doesn't take them long to recover and I know his eye has to feel so much better not to have his...

How To Grade Your Dog's Food
I ran across this on another board. I thought it was pretty interesting. I'm feeding my 2 (chow and shih tzu) Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Ultra Premium because it's for all life stages. It scored pretty high. I know all life stages isn't the best way to go, but I can't keep Tai out of Gizzie's...

Re: Vaccinations
I appreciate the responces. I'm of the mind that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I have Tai's shot record and know that he's had everything that's appropriate for his age. But I've heard that once they have gone through the series of puppy shots for D/P, they don't need them again. I just hate over...

Vaccinations
The middle of June it will be time for Tai to get his yearly vaccinations. He was all current on his shots when he was surrendered by his former owner. I'm just wondering... I hate the thought of giving him the vaccinations again. I have no choice about the Rabies shot, that's required here. But wha...

Re: Breeders, puppy mills and testing labs
Sam, sorry to hear about the litter. Unfortunately some people on this forum seem to believe they can get more done for their cause by being ugly, then by trying to watch their tongue like a civilized, caring human being. Jeff, you and your mouth (posts) do more damage to your cause than anyone or a...

Because of Tai's size and coloring, I tell people he is mixed... Samoyed and Irish Setter. LOL As long as he doesn't open his mouth (black tongue) we are in good shape.

Oh my word! totally off topic your dog is gorgeous! I LOVE his color! Re: Emma's sheddin' "puppies"!!
Tai has been shedding ever since I got him. It's always undercoat. I'm sure he's getting his summer coat and it's beautiful and shiney. But the undercoat is never ending. I do quick brush overs during the week and get plenty of fur, but then on the weekend, we sit and brush for an hour or 2. Tai is ...

Tai is a big boy, about 75lbs., and if he wants to, he could easily pull my arm out of socket and he has pulled me down in the snow and I'm not small. After he pulled me down, I said enough is enough. So on our walks I would bring his very favorite treats. When he'd walk like a gentleman, I'd occasi...

Re: allergic reaction after shots ?
Hi Desi,
I have never had any of my dogs/chows react that way to vaccinations, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. I would give your vet a call. Does he/she have a 24 hour number you can call?

Re: Breeders, puppy mills and testing labs
Those who choose to get their pups from a breeder shouldn't be made to feel guilty because they didn't get their chow from a rescue and it's unfair to say they should feel that way. I have gotten chows from a breeder and now I have a rescue. Can I say I'll never get another pup from a breeder again?...

Re: Animal Planet - Groomer Has It
I also watched Groomer Has It. Like everyone else, I thought the commercial for it was terrible. But through the show itself, I felt they portrayed the chows fairly decently. None of that vicious stuff was in the show. Even the one chow who had the stupid blonde woman attempting to groom it, didn't ...

Re: possible entropion?
Until you see the vet, you can try using some "artificial tears"... the drops that contact lens wearers use for dry contacts. Until I could get Tai's entropian surgery scheduled and him in there to get it done, our vet said I could use my artificial tears on him. They help to lubricate the...

It sounds like pain to me also. But I agree, it might not hurt to give your vet a call. If for no other reason then to put your mind at ease. I know I have our vet's home phone in case of an emergency. Did your vet give you anything for pain for him? I hope he gets to feeling better real soon.

To alot of the farmers, their pets are a tool they use. In this part of the state you see alot of Australian Shepherds and Australian Shepard mixes out in the country because they are known for their herding skills. And yes, unfortunately you do see alot of of animals running loose in the country be...

Re: Healthy 10 month old refusing to eat kibble
I agree. She needs to be able to eat in a peaceful environment. It sounds like maybe she's too worried about what her brother is up to, to eat. I would definitely separate the two of them at meal time and see if that doesn't help. If not, I'd just do what Auddymay suggested, just leave kibble down. ...

Just make sure Buddah gets his share of attention as you introduce the new puppy. Also, if Buddah has things that are his favorites, like a toy or bed... make sure that stays Buddah's. Buddah may get his nose out of joint some when the new puppy comes and actually stays, but for the most part things...

I'm so glad nothing terrible happened. It's always scary when they get loose like that. Tai just puts his head down and off her goes, never paying attention to where he's going. As beautiful as it is to see them run, they just have no idea what they're doing. Fortunatly Tai just runs down to one of ...

Cherry Valley must be really small. We don't even have it on our maps here at work and I thought we had everything for dispatching.
