CC was chokeing

I gave her a piece of chicken jerky. A treat that she has had a million times. Suddenly she was pawing at her face, then jumpped in my lap--all 30 pounds of her and was trying to paw at my face. I realized she was in trouble and did a mouth sweep and disloged the chicken. Hubby was laughing at her a...

New grandpuppy

My daughter just got a new puppy 3 days ago and she is too cute. she is a Chi mix but don't know what the mix is. She is 1 year 3 months old, house broken, spayed, chipped and UTD on shots. A friend at work just got accepted to nurse anesthesia school--it was a surprise--and felt she was not going t...

OK someone up there is trying to tell you something. You need to stay in bed with the covers over your head. Dont even go potty without assistance--LOL. That is just terrible and sounds like something my husband would do. Be careful. I do hope you have not sustained any serious injury.

CC has company

My son and DIL came for 2 days for some family time. The last time CC saw them it took her a bit to warm up to them, especially my son--she barked and snapped at him--but that was during the hurricane after we had evaced and she had been in the car for 4 hours. They became friends then. Well the mom...

Re: E-Collar After Spay Surgery?

CC didn't have a collar after her spay and was just fine. Of course my last dog was a male and was nutered. He had a collar and managed to get around it and tear his stitches out--had to go get him resewn--a blody mess. I was really expecting to have to return to the vet for the collar but she was O...

Re: Very Social Chow?

My chow mix (looks like with some kind of terrier) is very social but loves pulling on the leash. I have really not tried to break the pulling except for when she is running trying to get to someone--for a greeting--and I tell her to leave it and she comes back to me. She is only 11 months. As for l...

CC and the Police

Last night the police were here due to a call that said the man next door was going to kill his wife--life in an apartment complex. When they could not get them to the door they banged on mine to see if I had heard anything. I let them walk through my apartment to get to the neighbor's back door and...

Re: Pet Insurance or Savings Plan?

I have insurance, for now--while I manage to build a savings account just for CC's care. I did use it once and it paid 80% after deductable. It took a couple of months though. I didn't go with VPI I went with Embrace. It will even cover things that are frequent with the breed like entropion fro chow...

Re: LeAvE Neighbors LEAVE w/those Barkers!

CC does not bark in the apartment but when I put her on the patio she barks a lot and I have to bring her in. I hate it cause she LOVES it on the patio. The other evening a neighbor came over and told me her barking was disturbing her sleep--she works nights. I can sure relate to that since I do too...

Re: CC and the kitty UPDATE

I spoke with my vet's office and they can find a home if I can get my hands on the kitten. They have someone looking for a kitten. Vet will do a health check free for them before rehoming it. I love my vet. I have to take CC in tomorrow because she started with vomiting and diarrhea today (diarrhea ...

CC and the kitty

My neighbors have a kitten that is sooo cute--they leave it outside all the time. CC has been trying so hard to get to it but it is so small I was afraid. Well the other day I let her approach after a LONG walk and she just wanted to be friendly. The kitten hissed but didn't run. Today I took her ou...

Re: spay but no skin sutures?

CC had stitches but wound glue would have been nice. I recently had surgery on my neck (they cut my throat) and had wound glue. It was awsome.Much better than stitches or staples and no removal needed. The scar looks good too.

CC's siblings survived

I found out from my son last nite that the puppies survived the kill shelter that I got CC from. She has 5 siblings and I feared that they may have been PTS. My son workd with a guy that was talking about his new puppy a few months ago and they discovered that his puppy was the brother to CC. He got...

TP, paper towels, kleenex paper, envelopes..... If it is paper, CC loves it. She will tear paper up all over the apartment anytime she gets the chance. I cannot understand the temptation of this but at least I know she is not strange.

Re: What is it, that makes a chow so different?

My CC is a mix and is many ways is very non-chowish. She loves affection and is very in your face for it. In some ways I can see the chow in her behavior. She is very smart and learns fast but seems to be considering if she wants to follow commands or if there is a reward involved. She is also very ...

OK guys. I live on the mississippi gulf coast and stayed for Katrina. Sometimes you just cannot leave. Re: Fiona the run-away

I have whistle trained CC. Of course she is a mix and it may be that she is less chowish than a PB. I did the whistle-treat, whistle-treat over and over in the house then on her retractable leash before I tried off leash. She has very reliable recall with the whistle. She has slipped her collar a co...

Re: CC tried to bite my son

Thanks all. You are right. If she had wanted to bite she would have gotten him--LOL. At least she was able to settle down and was OK after a hour of quiet time. I do believe it was just a warning. As for bite inhibition--she still nips some when playing but is gradualy improving as I continue to wor...

CC tried to bite my son

We had to evac for Gustave last week and went to my moms home inland. CC had to spend 5 hours in the back of the SUV and when we arrived we were surrounded by a bunch of strangers. My adult son was one of the strangers. When my son tried to hug me she snapped at him. Poor baby I am sure she was just...

Re: Wet neck syndrome

My CC always got her chin wet too. I got her a water bottle that hooks onto her crate and that solved the problem unless I give her a bowl of water like I do after her walks (it is very hot here). Of course if you are not using a crate that would not be the answer.
