Re: Brian's First Snow

Handsome boy! He looks cinnamon to me, minus the usual black mask. Time will tell, but my avatar and signature photos are my female cream, of which she is on the dark end. I also have a male of the same color. Real variations are due to differences in shaded (lighter breeches and mane) and self (sol...

Re: anyone with cream chow?

I have 2 creams. Neither has tear stains. Tear stains are not a foregone conclusion with Chows. Both get muddy and dirty. If you let things dry and then brush them most of it goes away. Mine do not look dirty. This is Dillon. He is 66 pounds. A 70 pound Chow is big for either gender. The other cream...

Re: Pack problem... Non chow

You are doing exactly what you must always do with these 2 in the same house. I have the same issue with D'Lion and Montana. Don't know why, but he goes after the old girl without provocation, so I hawk eye them and keep them separated when I am not in sight. It's not ideal, but Big D can be backed ...

Sorry about Laddie Dawson. We only ever had one pet with a working first and last name such as this. It was my mom's tom cat Joe Miller.

Re: My Little Lilly

I'm glad all is well. Poor Mike, he got the short end, but he is getting love from Lilly too. It will get better and better, but you are right, it is you who is Lilly's person. I wish Mike extra patience, he will be rewarded in the end. I don't deviate with food for the pups here. Lily has dermatiti...

Creams have a more yellow/tawny undertone than a red one. biscuit ears and a Dudley nose are common. Yours look like a dark cream.

Re: Where have the others gone

I have been away for a bit working on some big changes in my life and frankly, I needed a bit of a break from the site. People come and go, and sometimes they come back. In fact, I have seen some folks come back that left in a huff, swearing it would be a cold day in Hades before they returned. I pu...

Re: alternate pooping spot when rains

Buy a big umbrella and get in the habit, every day. You can teach a Chow what you want by saying Go peepee or Go poop. You start by saying it as they are preparing to do the deed, and then copious amounts of praise and happiness when the deed is done. Never make a Chow have to choose to soil their h...

Re: My New Boy coming home next week

Is this all necessary? Does it matter if we can do math or if you can identify a member or the Chow they own? And above all, keep politics out of it. Our Chows could give a rip what anyone's politics are about. My full grown female weighs 33 pounds. My male weighs 66 pounds. They come in all sizes. ...

Re: NEVER coddle my Chows

Anyone who has been around a Chow more than a minute can appreciate the phrase 'let them know who the real boss is', because they test and push limits constantly. It reminds me of playing poker with skilled players and brings to mind another phrase 'if you don't know who the fish is at the table, it...

I live in West Michigan near Lake Michigan. We have a dog beach right on the big lake that humans should be so lucky to visit. And drinking the water doesn't harm them, cause it's a lake!

Interesting diagnosis. I watched a video of goats with this condition, and they are wild to watch. I cannot imagine what it took to find the correlation with your Chow. I too, hope you move into a bottom apartment or a one story home!

I think the ah ah is a great tool. We also use tst tst. They generally get that for things like compulsive licking though. There is also a difference between DROP IT and LEAVE IT. Both are excellent tools. If you can perfect BRING IT with these other commands, you will have a great arsenal of comman...

How old is Kyra? Whatever scared her, it left a big impression. You will have to work her through it. Snap on a leash and say whatever you do when going outside. Then, gently but firmly walk outside. If she tries to fight or whimpers, wait until she stops and keep going. Do NOT say 'It's okay' or an...

Re: My Little Lilly

It sounds like you have had a bad awakening. As much as she loves you, there are damages you may never over-come. Fortunately, as complex beings, we can alter our behaviors to keep our damaged furkids from getting into bad situations. Instead of taking things from Lilly's mouth, you will have to off...
