Re: Chow pads

I feed my dog nothing but quality food. No breads etc. He eats a lot of protein. And I do not give him grain. His dog foods are all grain free because of allergy. So, the yeast will be history for me. I have to take him for his Rabies shot in two weeks, and at that time, I will address this with the...

Re: Chow pads

No, his feet are not smelly and he is not smelly. Upon examing his front paws, they seem fine to me. I will keep a close watch on them. His Vet tech said there is a fold of skin at the pad's site and yeast can easily form there. But that it is not uncommon. Go figure.

Chow pads

I learned something new yesterday when I took my chow for grooming. His groomer told me that his front leg paw pads, the one under his ankle has an excretion that is smelly and that I should wipe his pads every week to eliminate this. Anyone can school me on this? First time I've heard of this.

Re: Skin Problems - Black Stuff / Balding! HELP!

I just read your post. My darling chow had similiar problems but he definitely has seborrhea. I went through hell and back to get him back on the right track. He lost a lot of hair and it seemed so hard to get it to grow back. The Vet gave us all sorts of shampoos, antibiotics etc. Nothing happened....

Cream colour stool

I just took my dog out and his poop was cream in colour. Not yellow. He is still active, but is this something to worry about? I cannot think of anything he ate that would cause this. He does not go around the house eating things - as we do not keep any small particles around because of the dog. Whe...

Re: Cat scratch

Thanks for the replies. I also hear that the scratch mark will disappear in due time. I am happy about that. I am keeping a very close watch on his nose for any infections. It doesn't appear to be a deep scratch. Again, thanks.

Cat scratch

Hi to everyone, Our feral cat scratched my chow on his nose. I spoke to the Vet who said just to watch it. Should I be doing something different? Will the scratch possibly leave a scar that is not black as his nose is? Of course if I put anything on it, he'll simply just lick it off. I am guessing j...

Re: Dog Tail Question

Thanks Kiwani, According to the Vet his glands are fine. He expressed them last week and asked us to keep an eye out for anything different. He also had x-rays of both his hips, the hips were examined without my dog cringing in pain. Actually he was enjoying the massage. So I am "stumpt" as well as ...

Dog Tail Question

My dog has been doing fine up until two months ago when his tail started hanging to the right and he keeps sitting. I took him to the vet when this started two months ago and the vet thought it was his *Censored Word* glands compacted. He drained one and the other was not bad. But now this is happen...

Re: Medication Question

Thanks for the info...I use 100mg for him, 1/2 in the am and 1/2 in the pm. However, I just started him on the SynovialG3 and am wondering if I should still give him the pain killer. Anyone knowledgable about that? I was told by my vet that at some point I could stop the Rimadyl and just give him th...

Medication Question

I know that in order to obtain Rimadyl you need a prescription. I ordered 30 tables from my vet and he charged me $66.90. Does this sound too high for 30 tablets? Can I get it cheaper elsewhere?

Re: Arthritis Question

Thanks for the information. I read about Synovial-G3 and ordered it for my chow. It seems to have everything in it that my chow needs. One pill will take care of everything including the pain. I am giving it a shot to see if it will work. Oh well, I have over 250 asprins in my closet that I just bou...

Arthritis Question

What are some of you giving your dogs for arthitis? Long term use that is? I bought some Vetrin tablets yesterday which worked fine for his pain but his vet said for long term use that it is not good and that it will only thin his blood out. Is there something in one pill for arthritis, pain and inf...

Have you heard of this dog food brand

call Darwin? I want to try a hypoallergenic dog food for my 18 month old chow. I am not sure IF he is allergic to foods and if so, I don't know what. So would a hypo dog food work? OR should I try to do an elimination diet? If I do that, how does it work? I've never had to do this before and this is...

Vitamins

I am looking for a pill/capsule vitamin, if it exists, for my dog. I am looking for a good fish oil. Any suggestions? Also, does Vitamin A comes in a pill/capsule form? My dog won't eat his food if I put liquid in it, so I have to resort to pill/capsule form.

My dog eats tilapia and salmon fish. He loves it. Is cat fish something you would feed your dog? I just cook the fish in a little water and put over kibbles or put in the oven for a few mins. no additives.

Constipation

My dog is on antibiotics and I am pretty sure that is causing his constipation. This is the first time has had hard hard stools. He is always in the diarrhea mode. I was quite happy to see the hard stool but I think he is constipated. Is a regular human stool softner good for him? I will call his ve...

Re: Constipation ??

I don't know if he ate anything unusual. I am keeping an eye on him though. He's been sleeping which is normal for him to do. He sleeps a lot. He is in a different environment this week and that could be the reason he is not eating much at all or pooping. He is a country dog and we are in the city. ...

Constipation ??

This may be normal, but my puppy - 11 months old, didn't poop at all yesterday. This morning, I took him out and ran him for a while and he attempted to poop but didn't. Could he be constipated? If so, what do I give him for this. Can puppies go a few days without pooping and not be constipated. Oth...

Re: Hair not growing fast enuf!!!!!

It is hard to say if he is or has shed for mid winter. His hair was cut down to his second coat but the long strings of hair is growing back through the second coat. I will view some of the posts on alopecia which I don't think he has.

Thanks.

Re: Hair not growing fast enuf!!!!!

I get the Merricks from a local pet store in the country and in NYC. It is a higher grade of dog food. It comes in a can and kibbles in the same flavor. My puppy likes gravy and I chose this brand because it has gravy with all the can food. He loves it.

Check it out on the internet.

hmmm very interesting. I am feeding my chow Merricks. I sometime put homecooked food on top of his kibbles. i.e. chicken livers, a little lamb, scrambled eggs. But he loves the can Merricks as he loves gravy. I also give him Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil. I guess it will just take some time for the hair t...

Hair not growing fast enuf!!!!!

My one year old dog has bald spots (still) on his butt from the shaving of his surgery a while back, the hair is slow in coming back. Is there anything - shampoo, medication someone has used in order to promote the growth of the hair? OR is is just a slow process since the hair was shaven down to th...
