Re: Cinder has moved on

So sorry to read of your loss. Cinder had something special with you that many shelter dogs still hope for: someone to take them home and love them.

It was a bit breezy here yesterday, perhaps it was Cinder's spirit's zoomies that kicked up the wind.

Re: I was adopted two years ago

My human gave me some very special treats today. I got a real bone and a brand new furry frisbee. I've trained my human to throw and retrieve the darn thing. I chase it and wait for her to get it to throw it again. Chloe O:)

Chloe is treated special every day. :D Chloe's Mom

I was adopted two years ago

by one of the saddest little chow mixes. The rescue which pulled her from a NYC animal shelter had these bubbly little descriptions next to the available dogs pictures. Chloe's description had one word, "timid". :( She followed me all over the property as if to say, "you don't want an...

Re: Going back to school...

Working full time and going to school full time is a challenge but very worth while I feel. Been there, done that and had to squeeze in the required practicum and internship as well. Sleep became highly overrated.  In the end it turned out to be one of the best things I've done. Congra...

Re: Can you/would you take your chows to work?

Chloe has gone to work with me on occasion. She's not much of a barker either at home or when we're out so noise isn't a problem. She seems to be able to only tolerate 1/2 day in
the office then she begins to get restless.

Re: Marrow Bones

All three of the supermarkets in my small city carry marrow bones. One keeps them in the frozen meats section the other two where they sell organ meats. Here they are usually packaged in groups of four. Chloe gets one on Saturday and I freeze the rest. Despite her protestations, it gets tossed befor...

Disturbing story...Non-Chow

Very disturbing story. Incredible how sick & heartless some people can be. "GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the conviction of whoever broke into a Green Bay home and placed a puppy in an oven.&quo...

Re: Collars

I just have a regular ol', run-of-the-mill, flat nylon collar on Chloe. It holds her tags and she is microchipped She seems to know when I take the collar off that the brush is coming out and will sit there forever to be groomed. Since I don't let her out unattended I could probably take it off. I g...

Re: What are your chows' favorite toys?

Chloe loves her Kong and squeaky toys. Some of those squeakies have met gruesome deaths (torn apart) but she loves 'em anyway. http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb273/nancielle/HPIM1586-1.jpg The camel (left) and chicken (right) are both missing the bulk of their stuffing and their squeakers but sh...

Looks like Hunter is right at home!! But I have a question....the landlord will let you have a Chow but not a cat?? That is crazy but awesome!!! :) Barb Yeah, it does sound crazy. The landlord initially nixed the idea of the cat because of the flea problem in the vacated apartment [-( . The evicted...

Chloe has a brother...

...but not as I envisioned it. I think I've mentioned before that Chloe's best friend is a cat. Several months ago the cat's owners were evicted from our building. The cat was abandoned (supposedly a family member was caring for him but they can't have animals in their building and just put him out ...

Chloe's been scratching herself quite a bit lately. She's on Frontline and I haven't seen fleas on her at all. In January she had two nasty hot spots on her back legs under her tail. The vet diagnosed her as being allergic to flea bites (even though she's groomed daily and I'd never seen fleas on he...

Chloe does the same thing. She'll pee early on in the walk then feels the need to squat at various points. Especially challenging are the spots higher up on trees where male dogs have marked but she'll butt up against the tree and semi squat. Then it's the foot swiping moves. I swear most people in ...

Spokesdog

Again this year Chloe served as spokesdog for our annual AIDS Walk. I brought her with me last year, shortly after I adopted her, and I couldn't imagine leaving her home this year. She's wearing a new banner (can't see 'em but the "dots" are actually paw prints.) She helped raise money fro...

From a dog site: 'Nuff said: How to Stop Black Dog Syndrome August 7, 2008 Unless you've worked in an animal shelter, you've probably never heard of Black Dog Syndrome -- a term that refers to the difficulty shelters have finding families for dark-coated dogs. Whether it's due to superstition or to...
