I guess in your world only healthy animals would be saved and it wouldn't require any publicity to maintain your shelter. Good luck with that dream... In my dream NO animal would have to die simply because there are too many. Too many irresponsible humans that is... This is what we should ALL be fo...

I understand your thinking, because I have thought the same thing watching Animal Rescue. They throw all kinds of money saving dogs from the brink of death, only to deem them aggressive and euthanize them. Yes, very sad indeed. It is hard to see resources going to waste. But consider this- someone,...

What a great thing you did to help these animals by giving them the gift of your time! :D Please don't think I am just trying to be a party poo, but there are a few things that are important for folks to know about "Best Friends". I live in Utah so I know a few things first hand. The simpl...

I was looking at the AKC site and it almost looks like you need to become a member of the parent club to be a member of the AKC. I could be wrong, since I'm not a member of either. For Chows the parent club is the CCCI. Information on becoming a member can be found at http://www.chowclub.org/ and c...

The answer to the problem of puppy mills and bad breeders is to get the AKC to actually live up to their stated goals and ideals. They can do this by not giving registration papers to any dog or litter whose parents have not had health checks or who have scored poorly on health checks. The remidial...

Dragon, It is distressing that you are so zealous about berating me for my taking a stand against the abuse and neglect I witnessed, yet you refuse to offer any solutions or alternatives to what you think should have been done. You won't even acknowledge the questions you have been asked. Why is tha...

WorknChowz, I hope you are at least a little bit happy with all of this, there were several Chows put down at Canton as a result of what you did, they could have lived out the rest of their lives there, but no, you had to go in and bring the news media instead of some other alternative. Carrie is s...

As someone said earlier in the discussion about bad breeders, I think we should compile a list from FIRST HAND witnesses. As a community of people who truly love the Chow Chow, we could have alot of power to help promote the good and put the bad out of business! Let's make it a point to visit Chow b...

Another thing we can all do is to refuse to shop at pet stores that support puppy millers. Send a message with your dollars! I make it a habit to go to new pet supply stores. If I see they are selling puppies and/or kittens, (Making sure that they are not showcasing rescue animals) I select several ...

Hoarders are usually mentally ill or have a obsessive compulsive disorder. Hoarders typically do not sell and make a profit. Hoarders generally take in dogs and or other animals and never let them leave their posession. This lady had so many because she could make more money that way. The sad...

It all boils down to the fact that a dog will work harder for what he wants than to avoid something he doesn't want! Also, with positive methods the dog's mind is free of conflict, there is no fear of being "wrong". That is not to say that some corrections may have to be used to "proo...

One would imagine that if someone loves dogs so much and the dogs just happen to provide thousands of dollars a year in income, that one might provide decent care for them and not throw them around the room and otherwise terrorize them! Decent people make provisions for their animals if they cannot ...

The trouble with closing her down or locking her up is 20+ Chows are going to need homes and I doubt the adults will make it out of the shelter and thats just taking it for granted the puppies will get adopted. How can they say she's not selling for profit when she has a website selling Chows for $...

Looks like a good food, but I must say that I am not a fan of "beet pulp" or "Ground Grain Sorghum". Cheap fillers and you have no idea what type of grain this "Ground Sorghum" is made from. Could be the corn and wheat that most of us are trying to avoid. My Chow Chows ...

Can't these places be reported? Surely, other club members wouldn't want a puppy mill in disguise to be in their list of members. They wouldn't want to blemise the prestige of the club with this kind of member. I don't understand - these places should have surprise inspections done. I have notified...

The easiest way to find a good breeder and puppy and that show quality that everyone is looking for is to pay for the Show quality puppy and reputable breeder instead of looking for discounts. If your going to go to a breeder that sells Chow puppies at Wal-mart prices then what do you expect. Ahem....
