I agree with willow above that the stories you are hearing can happen with full grown Chows that were not raised in loving homes. But that is totally different from saying your puppy will turn into a wild dog. Chows will revert to becoming essentially wild canines, like a coyote or wolf, if they do ...

Thanks too for the listing of other titles, I may want to check those out as well.

Firstly, I'm glad you are acknowledging you made a mistake in the way you went about obtaining a new dog. Please share your story with others and let folks know that they should never buy a dog on impulse and should fully understand the type of breed that they are buying matches their lifestyle. Wit...

Looking for a Chow Chow storybook written in early 1900's.

A few years ago I found a story written from the perspective of a Chow Chow. The story was written in maybe the 1920s or 30s? I think the location for the story was New York. I only read the first chapter and it was a story about the dog being indignant when guests came over and tried to treat it li...

Chows tend to instinctively hate cats (and raccoons, oppossums, and other animals that they might naturally battle with for territory). My Chow used to hate ALL cats, and would bolt after any cat it saw. Soon she started actually catching up to a few that stood their ground and she suddently became ...

Moshi refused to walk in the rain for years. And we live in Seattle, where it rains all the time. She gets very stubborn about getting wet. She is 8 now and has just started accepted walking in the rain to go to the bathroom. She gets very sad when her coat gets wet and loves to stay clean. When the...

Thanks for all the replies. I am already going to get her annual teeth cleaning done, so I guess I will go ahead and schedule the spaying since most folks here seem to think it's a good idea. I still am very worried about having surgery on my Chow Chow, but I guess this is a common operation and it ...

When Moshi was a puppy I fed her the chain store brands and she never ate very much. Mostly Pedigree, Alpo, etc. She shed a lot and was always itching. A few years ago I switched to Merrick and she gobbles it down. I rotate the flavor daily to keep things fresh. Every so often, she tires of the Merr...

Getting an older Chow Chow fixed?

My vet recommended that I get my 8 year old Chow Chow female fixed at her annual check up. He always gives this recommendation, but I have been against it because my Chow Chow has always had a good temperment and I'm not fond of surgery. She is in fantastic health, lean and muscular, and high energy...

Yeah, Chows clearly see a bursting bladder as a better experience than getting wet. Moshi will do the exact same thing. She nearly goes into hibernation here in Seattle when it rains for days on end. I have to drag her out by the leash to get her to go to the bathroom. Then when the sun comes out sh...

Hi folks, I'm new here. My Chow Chow is Moshi and she's a purebred Cinnamon female. She has always hated water and will only wade up to her ankles when it's hot out. She does love the snow, and will refuse to come in when it is snowing. She has fallen into water three times and was able to swim, but...
