Re: Poor chow at the pound :(
There has been no chows on it for 2 years now because they are a rare breed in Alberta anyways.. so 4 days ago I go and look and there is a chow... they didn't know how old he was, from the pictures he was a red boy with badly matted fur. Wow does this make me feel horrible. If there hasn't been on...

Re: Well, it's been a year
Thanks. We did try an anti-pull body harness that my sister lent to us, but it didnt seem to help a lot. I will have to look into this 'gentle leader' harness. Where can you get one? And what makes it different from other harnesses?

Well, it's been a year
We've had chewy for a year now. (It's been about that long since I've been on here too) He's still a very playful and energetic dog. We think he may have been crossed with a german, because he's got the color and coat of one. He's also a heck of a lot bigger than his siblings are. Not so big that he...

Ok I admit I was exaggerating about the rabies thing. But it sure feels like that. We tire him out as much as possible, problem is he has more energy than both of us so its hard. He has lots of toys and he destroys them. Very efficiently. We puppy proofed the house. He's much better now. thanks for ...

HELP on my last little frayed nerve
Well our puppy is on my last frayed nerve. He's about 3 months old, and he's getting into absolutely everything. I have had to rewire my speakers about 6 times cuz he chews through the wires. We've had to throw out about a dozen pairs of socks. We now need new carpet. He goes out to bathroom when we...

Well we had his first real bad accident. He pooped in his kennel :( I think that he has/had diahrrea (sp) and couldnt hold it. But we cleaned it up (read she cleaned it up) and played with him for about an hour and he was fine. He got a bath today as well. She says he was a very good boy during the ...

runny poop/diarrhea
Not sure if this post belongs here, but I'll go for it anyway. My young chowling (7 weeks now) eats soft puppy food (canned food) and its good wholesome stuff without any grains or corn. Sometimes his poop is runny, and sometimes its hard. It seems that its usually normal (hard) after a few hours li...

We're fairly sure he is a mix, or at least one of the parents was a mix. The litter owner said that both parents were chow... Well it was hard this morning. I came home about 7ish or so after my shift, took him out, gave him some water, waited about 5 min, took him out again. The first time he poope...

Re: How to...STOP NIPPING AND INAPPROPRIATE CHEWING
How to...STOP NIPPING AND INAPPROPRIATE CHEWING If your chow is chewing on you during play: Say “ouch” in a high pitched voice and stand up folding your arms across your chest (making your arms and fingers less accessible for munching) not making any eye contact with your puppy. what if he chews on...

I've checked out the bite thread. It's lots of help. In fact all of the posts on this site help a lot. Even the vet said to say OUCH or yelp like a pup when he bites and stop the play. kind of a stupid question, but I think I should ask. How long do you play for and what? Also whats a normal daily r...

Just so that everyone here doesnt get the wrong idea about me, YES I AGREE that he should have stayed with his mom and litter until 8 weeks. I was hesitant to take him because of that but the so-called breeder thought that just because the mom didnt want them suckling anymore it meant they were read...

Have an opportunity to own a Chow
I have an opportunity to get a chow from a friend for no cost. It's a young puppy, around 6, 7 weeks. However I am not sure about it as me and the girlfriend are still fairly young.(early 20s) and I have never owned a dog before. (the girlfriend has owned a Rottwieler when she was a kid) I know that...
