*Censored Word* Gland Question

My chow's tail goes to the right side like he is in pain and he does not want to walk to outside to do his business. My vet has ran out of options. Can this be his *Censored Word* glands that are bothering him? How can you tell if the *Censored Word* glands needs to be removed and how harmful is it ...

I do see some patchs of the outercoat hair coming in where it was thin . Just wanted to know if the undecoat would grown back. Especially to keep the chow ...

Something New now

My chow has been fine with going outside but now he is not thrilled at all about taking a stroll . I take him outside around 10:30pm or 11 for his last pee but he doesn't want to go out the house. He doesn't want the leash on - he'll just roll over and go to sleep. He does drink a lot of water durin...

Symptom or Nothing

Hello all, Maybe this is normal but when my chow indicate he has to go out his tail goes to the right and he practically sits as if he has a terrible itch - when that happens he'll then stand straight. He'll walk a lil then the same thing happens. I also notice sometimes when he eats he'll stand but...

Re: KIWANI - Follow-up to my chow chow's skin condition

Thanks again for your post. I think the next chow that may have a similar situation may gain from these posts. Yes, I am beginning to relax a bit because i want my puppy to just be a normal puppy. AND I am bathing him every 6- 8 weeks now. If that. Any recommendation on a light shampoo? The speciali...

KIWANI - Follow-up to my chow chow's skin condition

I spoke with the Vet this morning and here's additional info. The growth hormone is an exclusion. We will not go there. However, the lil bumps, according to the Pathologist, are extra mucus that forms from the hair follicles that are deep within the skin. These type lil bumps seems to appear where t...

Re: KIWANI - Follow-up to my chow chow's skin condition

The bumps aren't really white, they start to form underneath the skin and then somehow burst, or he may scratch at it if he can reach it and it will crust over. When that phase is accomplished, hair grows out of that particular area. Very strange. I can literally pick an area that has crusted over a...

Re: KIWANI - Follow-up to my chow chow's skin condition

Thanks for the post Kiwani. The shaving too close to the skin is exactly what my puppy is going through now with the post clipping alopecia. And he has the endocrine problem which is not too bad according to the specialist. What you wrote makes a lot of sense in terms of what my puppy has. And the s...

KIWANI - Follow-up to my chow chow's skin condition

The vet called today to let me know some of the results of his skin biopsy. Though she just got them in, she still has to speak with the pathologist tomorrow morning to see how to treat my puppy. They found his hair follicular atrophy, which means, I think, he is no longer growing hair. The other di...

Kiwani - Update on my Chow

I took my puppy to see a specialist today. She specializes in skin and diseases of dogs and cats. She said he doesn't have seborrhea. However, she did a biopsy of the skin in three places to determine what is going on and to get a diagnosis. I won't know the results for two weeks. It is sent to Corn...

Re: Staph Infection OR What?

This is so informant. I truly appreciate all this information. I am printing this out and as I said before, I will speak with the vet first thing tomorrow morning with all of this information so we can get to the bottom of my little puppy's situation. The vitamin A seems to be just what he needs and...

Re: Staph Infection OR What?

Thanks again. This is all helpful information. The vet is isolating his diet to find the source of allergies. The special diet he is on is to weed out what he might be allergic to . He has three more weeks to go on this diet. However, I am giving him yogurt everyday, salmon oil in his food, and the ...

Re: Staph Infection OR What?

Thanks again Kiwani, This sounds exactly what my puppy may have. I am wondering why the vet did not indicate this. I hate vet hopping, but I had one original vet for him who said my pup had seborrhea dermatitis and only wanted to treat this with shampoos. We tried it to no avail. We were highly reco...

Thanks for your response. I will check for keratin cysts on the internet. What is done for this in dogs? I just need to get a grip on this as soon as possible. Any suggestions for shampoos?

Staph Infection OR What?

My year old chow chow has some kind of skin problem. I am asking my question here to see if anyone who has a chow that has or had a skin problem like my pup. Little pimple like forms underneath the skin with pus then breaks open to form a scaly scab. It is not all over the body, just around the back...

Neutered

My male pup was neutered about three weeks ago. When he pees, he is not lifting his leg. Is this stemming from the neutering? I saw him lift maybe twice if not three times, but mostly he just pees like a girl. Bear in mind he is not near a tree or anything that dogs would use and lift the leg. Curio...
