Re: Suggestions on training and games to play
He looks like he has a doggy sister or brother that should keep him occupied.
But, there are other things you can do, like give him a Kong (rubber toy you can find in Petco or other pet shop) and fill it with peanut butter or soft spreadable cheese. That should keep him occupied.

Re: My 1 year old Chow has been dealing with anxiety. HELP!
Do you think the change in groomer affected him this much?
If so, I would change groomers.
Perhaps changing groomers would help and try to maintain your feeding, walking, playing schedule, as chows can become disoriented with change.
Either way, I would take him to a vet

Dasuquin or not
Since they were a year old, I have used Dasuquin with MSM for my chows Mia and Chutney, becuase Mia has had a mild luxating patella since she was little and Chutney has had mild hip dysplasia since he was little. Although neither of them were limping at the time, it just seemed smart be proactive. T...

Re: Excessive lip licking
Thank you!
I really never would have thought of the food being an issue.
Funny thing though, I did just change their food to a lower protein because Orijen and Merrick were to high. We are trying Wellness now. Maybe that might help her not do that so much.
We will have to see

Re: Bloat - please be informed
Just a quick couple of cents worth. I have a bloat kit which I bought, but everything that is in it can be bought separately. The kit has a clear plastic 2 feet long piece of 1/2 inch tubing, a block if wood with a hole in it large enough for the tubing to go through (used Tao keep dog's mouth open ...

Re: Excessive lip licking
Hi all, I'm in Georgia. No salt or snow melter. And, I am keeping her off lawns that have had professional weed killer etc, which in my neighborhood, is all of them. We walk to parks and our back yard is totally chemical free. (Of course, it looks like it too, lol!) But, good idea, because I bet tha...

Re: Excessive lip licking
It is so strange, isn't it?
My vet and I have wracked our brains to try to figure out what is causing this.
And, like you say, it isn't all the time.

Re: Where have the others gone
Hi everyone, I have been off the site for a couple of years...due to nothing but crazy busy lifestyle changes. And, I have missed it terribly. When I first was thinking about getting a chow, I joined this forum and found wonderful advice and great people. Chutney and Mia are my heart and soul, and t...

Re: Does Anyone Let Their Chow Walk Without a Leash?
Never! (Let me just say that about my chows....never!) Chows... were not domesticated with jobs that required close interaction with their human. don't often have great recall skills because, again, their former jobs (cart pulling, hunting etc.) did not require constant interaction with their human....

Re: Barking
Mia is a barker. I have learned that she considers it her job to be the guardian of the family. And, I want to reward that. Of course, I don't want crazy barking because the tree three blocks away started to shed some leaves, lol. (I'm being sarcastic here, but only because it sometimes seems like s...

Re: ANYBODY EVER DARED TO CLEAN THEIR CHOWS TEETH (FANGS)?
I have always cleaned Chutney and Mia's teeth and even though I have tried to get them used to it, it has never been easy. It has always been a struggle, but I have always persisted. I've told them, that in order to be a good chow mom, I will out-chow them with my stubbornness. They are 6 1/2 and 7 ...

Excessive lip licking
Hi everyone! My goodness, it has been so, so long since I have been on here and I miss that. Miss Mia is now almost seven years old and beautiful as ever. Recently she has started to lick her lips a lot. We have been to the vet to check for any obvious causes...nausea, bloat, oral discomfort, swallo...

Too funny!
I don't know what to tell you, because mine have never wanted to go on the furniture, but, if you could think of her as a fancy seat warmer, it just might make it ok.

That is so interesting, because of pyometria and all of the cancers that are ovarian based.
We will have to keep an eye on sudies like this.

Re: not a happy new year so far
Yoshi baby - so sorry to hear about that. My mommy took me to a party with six other chows and five other hoomans wanting to play and hug us. Chutters of course, let they drool all over him. He will never learn, no matter how much I yell at him. I ignored everone and sat by my mommy's feet. But, I w...
