I agree that these are 2 magnificent girls and always looking at (or posing for) the camera. It's so interesting how chows lie down in the snow. We have about 3-4 feet in our yard and Bones just lies down and takes it all in! Thanks for posting those pics! Debbie and Bones (I'm going to go the The B...

I love reading all your stories of why a chow! Each is so interesting and different. Here is mine: When I was 16 my parents, brother and I went to visit some relatives in Germany. I was invited to the home of my Aunt in law's sister without my family. I spoke very little german and my aunt and her s...

thanks for your comments and support. I did change Bones' food from Nutros to California Naturals for about 3 months at one point in this process. It didn't seem to make a difference. I wonder if I would be a good idea to try the Solid Gold Wolf King food someone on this site mentioned. It is bison,...

Bones itch update
Went to the vet's last week and she, an assistant and myself were able to get a blood sample from Bones. He was very nervous, but let her do her job while I held him at the head and told him what a great boy he is. He complained - kind of like how Chewbacca on Star Wars talks - but let the procedure...

The other thing you could leave for him is a piece of your clothing on his blanket with your scent on it. I think the best bet, though, is the treat bone at the door. Also, can Koda see out a window when you are gone? Both my chows would watch out the window for me throughout the day; it kept them b...

I love the thought of you keeping this chow too! You will have to sell it to your husband in just the same way you wrote - that it would be nice for him to have another male in the house full of bitches... just a thought, if the lady in the hospital knew you would keep him but were worried about fut...

I hope so too. I really believe that he was not eating due to grieving the loss of his owners (WHY WHY WHY would they do that to him???). When we go away and my parents take care of Bones, he does not eat for a few days, not even treat bones! I am so saddened for this old gentleman dog and would tak...

I am so glad you found him so fast - I also know the panic when Bear took off from my parents house. My 9 month pregnant sister opened the door and out bolted Bear. My husband and I had snuck out to go to church and he obviously was not staying there without us. Believe it or not it took 2 days to f...

We take Bones camping with us yearly to a place we call Canada's California - Penticton, British Columbia. He loves it and gets lots of attention, although he never lets anyome come near him if we are not at the campsite. It is very hot and it takes him about 1 day to aclimitize to the difference in...

Oh Mandy, I am so sorry. I never even met this pup and I feel a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes for her. It is just so sad. You were so good to give her some quality in her short life and to sit with her mother and tell her about her pup going to the Rainbow Bridge. I feel so sad for you and ...

Judy - Thats all I wanted to add to Kiwani's post too - she said it all but... ...just one more hug... I think I would do just about anything to have one more delicious, beautiful, old chow dog smelling hug with my Bear. I would be on the floor kneeling, he would bend his head and push it unde...

Elaina, Is Nuco the same as Nutro or something else? As you all probably know I am working dilegently to find a reason for Bones' itchiness and at one point in this process switched from Nutro to California Natural on my vet's recommendation. since it made no difference after 3 months I switched bac...
