Bear used to eat bees - he would chomp them right out of the air and it seemed like he didn't get bitten. He must have just chomped then swallowed; I split a gut laughing at him and he'd just look at me in that chow way as if to say " no big deal, nothing going on here"

Special Dark is sooooo cute. How old is he?
It's great that you kept him; your home probably felt like his anyways!
Do you have other dogs? What made you decide to foster a chow? Sorry for all the questions, I just gotta know! :postit-question: :?: :D

Hi Pam, I'm glad you found us. I really found comfort here when I was grieving my first Chow Bear who died 2 October's ago - I miss him all the time. We got Bones, his cousin, about 4 years before Bear died. I am a very practical person and have worked with dying people and their families for years....

Welcome to the site! I had a Bear too! When we would all leave for work or school, he would chew on his fur and make an open area - it was due to separation anxiety and we eventually got a chow pup named Bones (his cousin). This helped tremendously and they got along well after the first week or so....

I am a social worker and a mother of 2 boys 5 and 11. I stay home and work part time or less. I love being at home with my boys and Bones. Bones follows me from room to room as I do the daily chores. Wherever I am, he will be within 2-3 minutes watching my every move. I feel so blessed!

I've told this story before, so forgive me, those who have already read it before. When I was 16 years old, my family went to visit relatives in Germany. I was taken by my non-english speaking aunt's sister's home for a visit. No one there spoke english and I spoke very little german. They took me u...

I hope so too. Has anyone heard from her?

Lou, I looked at Lao's photo - what a beautiful boy. You all must miss him terribly. There is something about an older chow that makes them evern more precious - they seem to have such a sense of serenity and wisdom. Was Lao like that is his later years?

Welcome to the site xueshuxin and Songsong! Just a comment that I think it is good that your chow growls when someone comes to the door. I wouldn't try to retrain, but maybe to teach Songsong that if you open the door and let someone in, that the person is welcome in the home. I don't know if that i...

I would be full of anxiety to have lost my Chow for over 204 days and not be able to find him.

My Bear was a horrible drooler and slobber so much so that we ended up using faceclothes frequently during the day to wipe it all off. We ended up just tucking the facecloth for the day into his collar so it was handy at all times. He didn't mind and we didn't get a huge spray of slob and whatever e...

Bones is nuts about bunnies and it is hard to manage sometimes. When we go camping in the mountains at Canmore there are rabbit holes all over the place and bunches of bunnies. If Bones spots one he gives a series of very high pitched barks and pulls on his leash or tie out chain. The series of bark...
