Re: Introducing a new chow, female vs female

Male / female is my suggestion. Let your mom keep the other female and you try the male. You do not let them 'fight it out'. You also owe Sinny the safe loving home you brought her in to. Many have tried same gender chows and many have failed. Yes there are many success stories but bloodshed in your...

Re: How to stop aggression or be more friendly to people

I would suggest patience first of all. It takes time to build trust. Build this with love and kindness and positive experiences. As far as socializing him this is important but he is older with his own 3 years of life experiences so he may never be a social butterfly or he may totally be one with ti...

Re: New Chow Owner.. Any Advice Welcome

Congrats on your baby. I will share a few thoughts. As far as the 6am wake up call, that will improve as she gets older. She is a baby and can't hold it as long. Think of it as having a baby and those sleepless nights. It's short term. Regarding her training please only use positive reinforcement. T...

Re: Say Hello to Cher <3

She is so cute! Congrats! It's giving me puppy fever. :) The only thing I would say is that if you plan on using a groomer in the future (I couldn't live without mine) I would get her used to it now. Mine go just for a bath, brushing/blow out, and nail clipping. Just love her, socialize her, and onl...

Re: Chow Shaking Head (nearly all the time).

More information is needed but obviously you need a different vet and to get to the bottom of this. Head shaking makes me think ear issue/infection. Has he been checked and/or treated for an ear infection? Meds/antibiotics/ear drops? Flushing cleans but doesn't treat an underlying infection. I am al...

Urinary tract infection? Bladder stones? I'm not sure but blood in the pee and a smaller amount is not normal and would require a trip to the vet.

Re: Getting an 8 week puppy, need advice

I use the harness in the second link for my two. I've had it for years and years. In the beginning I fastened it on their chest to work on pulling but since then it's always fastened on their back. It doesn't damage their fur and allows more control and is much safer than a collar IMO.

Re: Chou Difficulty Walking

Arthritis is common and can be eased with a variety of pain meds and supplements. At his age comfort is the priority I would think. Hip dysplasia is also common. Has he ever been x-rayed? Ligament issues, spinal issues. Many things could be causing this. A good orthopedic vet would be my next visit....

Re: New Puppy Training while away at work/school

I tried that with mine when they were babies. When I had to leave I would leave him in the master bath with a pee pad. He never once used it or peed on the floor. He held it. Both of mine were fully potty trained (no accidents since) by 12 weeks and given mostly free reign of the house from that poi...

Was he checked for worms at the vet? That is a possibility. He could also just be stressed. Did you change the food or continue what the breeder was feeding?

Re: female 6 month old blue/silver chow chow

Congrats on your baby. I have a few comments related to your questions. Chows should be trained with positive training techniques only. The alpha thing is very confusing to me. Love and kindness, socialization, and positive training is all you need. NILF (nothing in life is free) training is good. Y...

Re: grooming

My two have had the same groomer since they were pups and the only cutting she is allowed to do is the stray hairs that pop up on Shuggys feet. No trimming or cutting to take away from their beautiful coats. I know some people trim up the backside (show chows for instance) but I prefer it the way it...

Re: Advice needed, My chow chow is licking his arms

It could be pain and/or arthritis related. I would take him to the vet for a check up and possibly X-rays to see what's going on. My Shug is 10 y/o now and I have noticed him being a little stiff in his front legs if he has been laying down awhile so it can be a front leg issue. Dogs lick for a vari...

Re: ADVICE NEEDED ON NEUTERING MY BABY

Honestly no neutering will not help IMO and bringing in a male husky is a complete recipe for disaster also. Two dominant breeds, dominant males, I'm cringing. You already have the cat issue, the stranger issue, and now the new male dog issue. I'm sorry but I just can't understand why you would brin...

Re: Progressive agression issues

Ok first things first. Please do not let her be around any children. If she bites a child, by the time all is said and done with cops/animal control, she will be killed. Please don't put her life at risk around anyone, but especially children. Secondly I would go to the vet and look for potential pa...
