Re: grooming

My two have had the same groomer since they were pups and the only cutting she is allowed to do is the stray hairs that pop up on Shuggys feet. No trimming or cutting to take away from their beautiful coats. I know some people trim up the backside (show chows for instance) but I prefer it the way it...

I'm sorry for your loss fillyok. Very sad. I don't really remember her although the names of her doggies do ring a bell.
I'm glad to see you around though!

Re: Advice needed, My chow chow is licking his arms

It could be pain and/or arthritis related. I would take him to the vet for a check up and possibly X-rays to see what's going on. My Shug is 10 y/o now and I have noticed him being a little stiff in his front legs if he has been laying down awhile so it can be a front leg issue. Dogs lick for a vari...

Re: ADVICE NEEDED ON NEUTERING MY BABY

Honestly no neutering will not help IMO and bringing in a male husky is a complete recipe for disaster also. Two dominant breeds, dominant males, I'm cringing. You already have the cat issue, the stranger issue, and now the new male dog issue. I'm sorry but I just can't understand why you would brin...

Re: Progressive agression issues

Ok first things first. Please do not let her be around any children. If she bites a child, by the time all is said and done with cops/animal control, she will be killed. Please don't put her life at risk around anyone, but especially children. Secondly I would go to the vet and look for potential pa...

Re: My 9 week Puppy Luna ( Mixed ? )

I'm not sure if that is a full chow or not. I will say that you are not suppose to clip a chow's hair. Double coated breeds will shed their under coat as appropriate and their coats insulate them from hot and cold temps.

I am terribly sorry for your loss. I know how devastating it is. Your advice and sharing it with us is very important. I would add to check your dogs mouth. I lost my own Kody to an oral cancer 10 years ago.

Re: New puppy question

I'm not trying to rain on your parade. I know you are anxiously counting down the days but please leave the pup with his mom and litter mates until he is at least 8 weeks old. Please google the many reasons why this is important. I would even go so far as to question the breeder. IMO a reputable bre...

Re: New chow puppy problem

Stacie... First, take a breath, it's going to be ok. My Shuggy was a wild and crazy puppy and today he is the sweetest, happiest, most loving chow I have ever owned. Your little guy was taken from his mom and siblings too soon. They could have helped to teach him some manners in regards to play and ...

Re: Should I get chow chow?

If a dog cannot be a full member of the family inside and outside and wanted/loved by all those in the household then I say no. A dog forced to live outside alone is not a family member. Yes some dogs love to be outside. I have a doggie door and my two come in and out as they choose. That is differe...

Re: Trouble Sleeping

Well there went all of my ideas! Lol :) I have no idea other than banning her from the bedroom and/or getting her a brother. We did eventually ban ours from the bedroom because Chloe snores like crazy and they are up/down, in and out all night. Even when given the choice now, Shug sleeps right outsi...

Re: Neuter my 6 months Chow or Not. Need opinions!!

Neuter yes, but there is some thought out there that waiting until they are a year old is best. Hormones, growth plate stuff. I'm not sure if it's true or not but when I was researching years ago it made sense to me. We didn't make it quite to a full year though because my female went into heat at 5...

Re: Destructive

Is he house trained? My question is why is he confined in the kitchen when you're gone and when you're home sleeping? I assume he is trying to get out and/or showing his frustration. Chows like to be near you, guarding your door for example.

Re: Finally got my puppy

First off she is adorable! Congrats. My two are 3 1/2 months apart in age. When I brought Chloe in as the second pup they played and rough housed all the time. She adored Shug and they were obsessed with each other. I was concerned about bringing in a second puppy and worried about her bonding with ...

[quote=So, could there be a problem having 2 male chow chows? Re: I need help walking my new puppy

My Chloe was stubborn about the leash so I took her to Petsmart and her curiosity /the smells got the better of her and she forgot about the leash and starting walking around. From that point on she was fine.

Re: Male or female as second dog (puppy)?

I always say get the opposite *Censored Word* when it comes to Chows. I would also neuter/spay both. You don't plan to breed them so for obvious future health reasons and to prevent accidental pregnancies (both inhouse and the random neighborhood accidents), I can't imagine why you would need to kee...

Re: Very dry hair on his bottom! Help!

Both of mine have drier, more wiry hair on their back ends/tails. I'm not sure anything can/should be done about it. Seems normal to me. Also a 10 month old may still have his puppy coat.

Re: A puppy met an accident and got his hands fractured.

That all depends on whether or not he receives the proper vet care and treatment. Hopefully the puppy is receiving that care.
