Re: My baby tore his CCL
My boy tore both in 2021. We spent 5 months on lockdown. TPLO surgeries were 9 weeks apart. I’m in Birmingham and total cost was around 10 grand. Luckily I have pet insurance. There is a great Facebook group for help and support during surgery and recovery. Canine Cruciate Recovery. The most importa...

Re: My two chow mixes are fighting badly
I lived through the same thing with 2 males raised together from puppyhood. Both neutered young. The fights were few and far between for years but eventually got worse, very frequent, and with the last resulting in trips to the vet. Complete and total separation was the only answer. It will only get...

Re: Kids and my Chow
You are forcing a 9 week old puppy to sleep outside alone? Of course the baby doesn't want to be alone and separated from the family! My question is why get the puppy, especially a Chow, if you have a terrified child and why get a puppy you want to force outside alone at night? These are the most im...

Re: Vacuum Cleaner suggestions
I agree on the Shark! The Shark Navigator Professional is the best vacuum ever! I too have owned Chows for 30+ years and what seems like a million different vacuums. It works on carpets and hardwoods equally well.

Re: Help Collars cause matting on my ChowI
I use a harness for walks and a rolled leather collar for tags at other times. You can google the collar for pics. Bought both at Petsmart. Thank you for saving her.

Re: Best Way to Discipline Chow?
Positive reinforcement and positive training methods. No hitting, yelling, rolling, or other such nonsense. Build love and trust, not fear and dominance. There are plenty of positive training references on this site. Use the search function.

Re: Trust issue
I'm sure he will be fine. I left my Shuggy for a week when he was 4 months old. He stayed with my aunt at her house and I worried he would forget me or bond with her or think I abandoned him but I worried for nothing. He still loved me when we got home and all was well.

Re: Shedding ... how long does it last??
It goes on until you can't believe they have any hair left. Mine go the groomers once a month which really helps but I still brush and brush and it just keeps coming. So I guess 'all summer' is my answer.

Re: My chow chow can not get used of the city
Short answer is no please do not return her. That would break her heart and is completely unnecessary. She would not be happier without you. That would be devastating. Just love her and keep working with her but even if she remains 'skittish around town' that is no reason to take away her whole worl...

Re: Uncertain and Somewhat Shy 3 months old Chow Lady
So at this point it is on you to keep her safe. If this forced socialization handling results in her biting someone not so forgiving then what happens? You get sued? She gets put down? She is a puppy now but not for long. What happens in a few months when she weighs 50lbs and bites someone you have ...

Re: Uncertain and Somewhat Shy 3 months old Chow Lady
Is she frightened or does she just prefer (as many chows do) not to be touched and fawned over by strangers? I'm sure she probably was frightened when you put her in someone's arms and I definitely do not recommend a repeat of that. Many chows prefer their families and have zero desire to be touched...

Re: Introducing a new chow, female vs female
Male / female is my suggestion. Let your mom keep the other female and you try the male. You do not let them 'fight it out'. You also owe Sinny the safe loving home you brought her in to. Many have tried same gender chows and many have failed. Yes there are many success stories but bloodshed in your...

Re: How to stop aggression or be more friendly to people
I would suggest patience first of all. It takes time to build trust. Build this with love and kindness and positive experiences. As far as socializing him this is important but he is older with his own 3 years of life experiences so he may never be a social butterfly or he may totally be one with ti...

Re: New Chow Owner.. Any Advice Welcome
Congrats on your baby. I will share a few thoughts. As far as the 6am wake up call, that will improve as she gets older. She is a baby and can't hold it as long. Think of it as having a baby and those sleepless nights. It's short term. Regarding her training please only use positive reinforcement. T...

Re: Say Hello to Cher <3
She is so cute! Congrats! It's giving me puppy fever. :) The only thing I would say is that if you plan on using a groomer in the future (I couldn't live without mine) I would get her used to it now. Mine go just for a bath, brushing/blow out, and nail clipping. Just love her, socialize her, and onl...

Re: Chow Shaking Head (nearly all the time).
More information is needed but obviously you need a different vet and to get to the bottom of this. Head shaking makes me think ear issue/infection. Has he been checked and/or treated for an ear infection? Meds/antibiotics/ear drops? Flushing cleans but doesn't treat an underlying infection. I am al...

Re: Please Help Us. We Really Need Advice and Help
Urinary tract infection? Bladder stones? I'm not sure but blood in the pee and a smaller amount is not normal and would require a trip to the vet.
