Re: Should I get chow chow?

It would not be a good idea to get a chow a leave it outside. I would not recommend it for any dog. Chows need a lot of socialization. They need to be part of your family. Wait until you have your own home to get your chow.

Re: I suddenly got a 5 month old Chow and he wont warm up to me

Cindy gave you some great suggestions on how to work with your new puppy. Food works great when it comes to training a chow. Use it to help socialize your puppy too. Keep a handful of treats in your pocket and let new people give them to your puppy when they meet him. Never force your puppy to let p...

Re: Chow Chow on heat - Moods

There are a lot of things to consider before breeding your dog. You need to do health tests on your dog to see if she should be bred. She should have her hips and elbows x-rayed if nothing else is done. You need to consider if you will be able to find good homes for the puppys. You need to make sure...

Re: Chow Chow on heat - Moods

The girls do have their moods when they are in heat. Just something you have to deal with if you keep them intact. They may even become aggressive with other dogs that normally they get along with.

Re: 3 year old Chow bit my mom.

Three weeks is not very long to have the dog and being startled may have caused him to bite. I would suggest you find someone to help you with training him. Positive training goes a long way in correcting behavior problems. I would not suggest keeping him only in your room because that is only going...

Re: Will Pooh Bear grow up to be mean? Please help

If I had a dollar for every time I was told my chows would get mean I would be a rich woman today. As Rorys dad said it is up to you make sure your baby grows up to have a good temperament. This is a great website to help you with your puppy http://www.peaceablepaws.com/pat-miller.php I believe ever...

Re: Questions to ask a chow breeder

I think the first question I would ask is "what health tests have been done on the parents of the puppy?". My next question would be about the health tests done on the other dogs in the pedigree. I would ask if the breeder guarantees any health problems such as hip dysplasia. Everything sh...

I'm very sorry to hear that the vet has no answer for why your boy is having so many problems. I wish I had an answer for you. I know how hard it is when they are sick. I hope you find an answer.

Have you had your vet examine Chester? I would have a complete blood panel done as well as thyroid.

Re: Hello! I'm a Chow owner wannabe

Have you considered a rescue? There are some beautiful chows with lovely temperaments that need homes. If you are on facebook look for Chow Chow Rescue of Central New York page. The have rescues in foster homes in different parts of the country.

Good luck with your search!

Re: Help with my chows limp

Has your vet checked him for Lymes disease? There is a group on Facebook called Chow Health you could join and ask if anyone has any ideas. There are a lot experienced chow people in the group.

Hope you find out what is wrong with your puppy.

Re: hello from a newbie owner

So great that you adopted Teddy. The first thing I would tell you is give him time to adjust to his new family. He will fall in love with your family just like his last family in time. I can't imagine a chow that doesn't like treats, you just have to find the right treats. Have you tried fixing some...

It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job with your boy. I think Rory gave your some great ideas. I would strongly suggest that you take to your vet and have a complete exam also. This should include complete bloodwork and a thyroid test. There may be a medical reason for the change in his behavi...

Re: Should i get one puppy or not?

Any kind of puppy is going to be a huge commitment for the next 12 to 14 years. If you are willing to take the time to train and socialize your chow, and learn to groom him, you will have a devoted companion. Make sure you have the time in your life for a puppy. You mentioned your parents. Have you ...

Maybe if you offered her a small amount she would take it. Even $50.00 would be better than nothing. If she just destroys the dog she ends up with zero. Hope you can get the dog back.

I can't help with info on copper storage in chows but I have a suggestion about milk thistle. You might want to look into Denamarin instead of the milk thistle. It is more expensive but many feel it is more helpful. Denamarin is a nutritional supplement used to improve your pet's liver function by i...

I just had Chloe in to see the vet with a similar issue but hers was all scabby/lil bloody from chewing it. It was the last inch or two of her tail but she also had a few other places on her skin as well. My vet said it is allergies and gave her a shot, some abx, and I am to give her a Zyrtec or cl...
